Tritronics is not the problem, boredom is the problem. Fix the problem and you won't need to use a shock collar. Should I assume your dogs are in a kennel? Dogs and especially hounds that are housed in small dog runs are bored. I got rid of my kennels about 15 years ago and all the kennel barking instantly went away.... And a lot of other problems associated with kennels too.

Thank you everyone for the ideas, my dogs are not in small kennels, but I do believe that boredom is the problem. I just don't know what else to do, they have room to run and play, my kids play with them, they come in the house with us, and we exercise them, but the still just bark and bark. I've tried shock collars, muzzles, bark collars, and nothing seems to help.

Some dogs just cant be broke from this but for the most part if you are consistant at getting after them and in a way they will remember, this can be corrected in most hounds. If they cant a bark collar is a cheap fix. Andy

I agree that boredom is the majority of the problem, but not everyone has the luxury of doing away with their kennel set ups. I recommend a Tri-Tronics shock collar. Obedience is the reason I dislike every dog that I do. Teaching a dog obedience makes everything else smoother and more enjoyable. Dealing with pups is frustrating enough, but then add in barking or crapping in a box, or handling poorly on a lead, or refusing to load. Getting pissed at the preventable little things at that age makes a person overlook the positive steps a pup might have taken in the same night. Every few months, my hounds like to test the waters and bark at everything in sight, so I let them wear a shock collar for a day or two and re-teach them the hound owner's most common command, "shut up." Just my opinion.

blackpaws, I do like your setup, but do you ever have problems with the hounds trying to dig or climb out? My kennel is six foot tall and before I put a cover over it, I have seen one of my hounds leap over it with very little effort. Also, as far as cleanup goes, I know a smart hound will crap in nearly the same spot every time, but in that large of kennel will they do that or is it more like running around the yard crapping where it is convenient?

i just saw that you had asked me a question on this thread.
i have had the kennel up since this spring and the only dog that has gotten out was a younger dog that could squeeze through the squares of the hog panels.
they usually go out and crap along the fence away from the shed where they spend most of their time. they have paths worn in the kennel where they chase each other around. it is comical watching them play. i had a load or reject sand brought in and that is around the shed. i rake that sand out about once a week and there is very little crap around the shed.
