I was just wondering if any one has any problems when you hunt down around the border. I am thinking about starting to hunt down there again. Is it safe for a person hunting alone? Any info would be great.

I live and hunt within 5 miles of the border and am usually alone, but do have cell service most of the time.
I assume you are worried about the Illegal traffic? I have seen drugs being carried a few times but every time they see me, drop the packs and run... I have a rifle and 6 dogs with me. I also have the border patrol number dialed in on my phone and they come very fast if drugs are involved... Just don't press the issue with the smugglers. I will stop and call the dogs back to me if I see them and just watch from a distance. Be smart about it and you should be ok.
I would not mind hunting with someone but then there is a whole other set of problems to deal with there... Are our dogs going to work well together? Are they going to be able to keep up? Are they going to arrive on time? ect...
Just easier to step out the door with rifle and pack, call the dogs and off we go.

I live 40 miles from the border and if I hunt any closer I will not hunt alone or be with out a weapon. You never know when you cross the wrong group in a canyon. I have a lot trail camera pictures of guys carrying drugs also groups of bandits with guns 40 + miles from the border. I know guys who have been shoot at by illegals totally unprovoked. I'm glad tomjr has had luck with Border Patrol doesn't work that way where we are. Some of the most beautiful country in the state along the border and you always have to look over your shoulder. Just my 2 cents on it. There is a lot that goes on you never hear on the News.

I hunt close to the border often and have seen the traffic patterns change with fence and lights going in stretches of the border . Its not nearly as safe as hunting the dragoons, Santa Rita's or rincons etc and I hunt alone however if you have a partner or partners its probably a wise choice to hunt together scout ahead for tracks of both game and illegal traffic avoid heavily traveled areas the west side of the hauchucas and east of Douglas have some heavily trafficked areas the San Pedro river gets hit fairly hard in certain areas to and then right around nogales to. And if your farther west on the reservation its Real heavy but a lot of its vehicular traffic

Is this the great border fence you talk about. They were not even smart enough to think about water running down a wash now ranchers have to put up barbwire fences to keep there cattle in.

Im the fourth Generation to live on the ranch I live on and the border has never been more dangerous than Now. I hope the goverment will quit covering stuff up and deal with the real treat to the US. I have seen pictures of mexico Police 10 miles inside the US. This summer I got so many pictures I finally got BP to pay attention they put cameras out and in 3 weeks got 200 packers and a group of armed bandits to hyjack the loads on one trail in sight of Tucson

I use to hunt down there a lot but one day while I was out looking at a track 16 packers tried to steel my truck, when it was all done with I had most of them in my dog box and I called the BP to come get them. They tried to use the rifle I had in my truck on me, but to their surprise it was not loaded and I knew it was not, so I turned my pistol on them after they tried to hit me with a shovel it was real western and I have not been back since but I am getting the itch to chase all of those lions down there again.

I do believe your better off in most instances not to report any interactions you may experience . It a inconvenience. However you might not have any options I keep my eyes open stay to the side of trails that have traffic I'm sure I've avoided hikers to. But I generally don't want to converse with most of them either . We can complain about the fences as it won't ever stop all the traffic but no border or DMZ I've seen was ever 100% effective and the old barb wire fence was so bad it was completely missing in places with out locating one of theconcrete markets you couldn't be sure which side of the line your on .

I hunt the border area a lot. Last August I hit an ATV loaded with dope.
. The ATV had 400 pounds strapped to it. It looked like a brick wall coming down the trail. My eyes looked like this -

Many things crossed our minds in the 45 minutes it took law enforcement to get there, Would anyone really miss a bail or 2!
