Torn ear

One of my new redbone pups tangled with an unknown(likely a coati will look for it this morning) and has a torn ear about 1/2 inch but the edges are not together so I don't see how it will heal back together. His ears are too long and must have gotten into the critters mouth while he was killing it.

I didn't notice the wound in the dark last night(this happened right at dusk) and only saw it this morning so the blood is dried into a scab and the wound looks clean. I was thinking I might just leave it alone and let it heal up on its own. Keeping an eye on it for infection of course. I don't think I would be able to sew it back together as ears are hard to work with and its just cosmetic anyhow... I guess its sort of like dinging your new car the first scar is the hardest to look at and it will likely be very noticeable.

not the best but it was dark out there so I will get another one when its daylight. Basicly the rip is about 1/2 inch then a 90^ turn and another 1/4 inch so there is a flap that will likely die back leaving a 1/2 inch hole.

Any advice?

I have used superglue on ears and it worked pretty well

Sure enough it was a Coati... big one too so guess he got off lite with just a torn ear.

I cleaned it all up and put two sutures in then used some superglue over that but left part unglued on the underside to drain... so far it seems to be holding and looks good.

Red was a model patient and only whined a bit twice when the needle went in.

Its a little critter about 10-15 lbs somewhat related to raccoon I think. They travel in big groups but the bigger males get kicked out and have to go solo. The solo males are always in a bad mood, likely testosteron poisoning? LoL I don't really know but they will almost always come out of the tree and they are slow so easily caught. Sometimes they even leap onto a dog, crazy little basterds. They have 1 inch claws on all 4 feet and tusk-like teeth about 3/4 inch long. For thier size they are very nasty on dogs.

Here is a link from this site with a few pictures ect.
