A few kennel questions

I just got my first hound and need to get a kennel built for him. Before I get started I have a few questions.

1) What age do you put your dog out in the kennel? He is just over 4 months old and the temp ranges from 0 to 30 degrees this time of year. He will have an insulated house to get shelter.

2) How high does the kennel need to be and does it need a roof on it? I was going to use 10 line cow panels that are 50"x16' and using 1 1/2 making it 75" tall. I'm also going to use half of one around the inside egde to keep him from digging out.

3) What age is it ok to start putting a bark collar on him in the kennel?

4) How worried do I need to be about him being alone and not with other dogs during the day/night?
Thanks,
Riley

Wow, you're already worried about him barking in a kennel and you haven't even built it yet. Doesn't that throw up a red flag? Do a search on this site and read about other options then putting your dog in a tiny kennel, he deserves more. There's a ton of info already written about kennels on this site.

Both of my neighbors are county sheriffs so I'm not going to risk it. The measurements I gave are for each panel. The total size of the kennel is 8'x16' so that is more then enough space for a dog. Finally I made this post on here because unlike some people I dont have time to sit on the computer all day(fullcry)

I think your kennel will be just fine. He is plenty old to be outside just make sure he has a lot of bedding (grass hay or straw) to burrow into. I personally would go without the bark collar until it becomes a problem. Start with a squirt of water from hose or a little smack on the end of the nose followed by a verbal command. That is how I keep my pups quiet, plus this time of year no one has there windows open and pups are not that loud yet. Hope this helps. Kenny

I would seriously think about a chain, they're not inhuman at all. They actually teach the dog when he hits the end of it that he cant go any farther. With the increased trapping in MT for wolves I would highly suggest it( I know snares arent illegal but how many people are going to follow those rules). Also I would make your bark collar a last resort, it will ruin your pup. I'm talking from experince.
