Is the birds eye view worth the $30.00? Does it make tracking your dogs better? Is it only good for on year or is it always on your handheld? I guess I don't really understand the subscription deal.

That is a personal choice. I feel that it is a valuable tool. Will show you more precisely where the dogs are. At least in relation to cover. Even if you have been hunting an area all your life. Satellite images can reveal things you just didn't know. Combined with the topo maps. You have all the info needed in you palm.

Your subscription for one year allows you to download as much as wanted in that time. Once expired you will no longer be able to download or add maps/images. What you got at that point you got. It will always be there. Unless you delete it or the unit dies.

To get an idea of what you might be looking at. Can export a track into google earth. The detail on your unit wont be the same. But it will give you an idea.

of course there is a demo on the unit of the grand canyon.

Birdseye look interessting to me, I consider buying a alpha and this would have been a good tool for me, but I'm from norway and will be using the alpha there.

Does the Birdseye work worldwide?..

I've got it on a 320 and really like it. It is more true than the topo because you can see exactly how a creek/river lays out or swamp/ridge etc. What I find has the most value though is seeing any tote road or trail that you can get in easier which isn't listed on a topo. I had a dog that was out 3/4 of mile this weekend in some thick nasty crap but there was an old cut trail only a couple hundred yards away. I was able to get in there in just a few minutes where it would have taken me an hour cross country. That alone was worth the $30 to me. I don't like how long of a process it takes to download maps. It's a slow process but real nice once you get it done.

It is a great tool, and very valuable IF you are willing to continue paying for it or only hunt one area. I had this great idea to download the areas I hunt and then put whichever one on there I needed for the week. After your subscription expires, you can't even put the maps you have downloaded onto the unit. In addition, downloads are VERY slow, and must be done one piece at a time.

So this is probably a dumb question but I'm not very techie, so you have to download the birdseye to a chip and then put it into your Garmin? So how can you combine a Garmin 100K chip with the Birdseye on your Garmin?
