How old is this dog and how long have you had her? Food issues start at an early age. She could be a problem child by nature or she could be a product of poor upbringing. Hard to tell, but it should be handled one way or another. I think it may be challenging for you in any case because she feels the need to protect the food even though you are not a threat. I think penning her up is amplifying the behavior. You might want to try to change her mode of thinking with obedience training. Make her sit and stay before you release her to eat. You might also make her come to you from 10 feet from the food dish after she starts eating. You will get nowhere by trying to ease your way into her space. Make her come into your space from hers. If you are not able to commit to changing her behavior over a period of time and conserted effort, get rid of her. This is a very bad situation IMO. Dogs that do this type of thing are a liability to your safety and others that are around this dog and it also will carry over into other aspects of your relationship with her.

It's not the dog it you ! You have let it over run you and will more then likely happen with the next dog. You need to be the boss and take charge. asks yourself why the dog does not do it to your roommate but does it to you . dogs are just like kids they will only do what is aloud or think they can get away with .PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN NOW
