Anyone hunt around the Alpine area? If so what's to be expected as far as the terrain, roads and so on? I have a friends that wants to meet there for a fall hunt. Just want to be prepared. Thanks!

I'm not sure exactly where we'll be hunting. My buddy hunted there quite a bit ten or fifteen years ago. He's out of California, where I used to live. Thats close to half way for both of us. He tells me there used to be alot of bear there. The rough country keeps the not so serious people out, we like that. I'll find out more and let you know. Is there anywhere we should or should not hunt?

YES,
IT CAN BE PRETTY ROUGH, JUST STAY OFF THE RESERVATION. LET ME KNOW THE AREA AND I AM SURE I CAN HELP.

Thanks Kevin, and everyone else. Good to know about the wolves. I spoke with my buddy and he has no particular place in mind. Been a long time since he's been there. I'm looking forward to getting in some new to me country. I'll keep in touch with you and would love some help with the places to stay away from.Don't worry about your back yard either, we'll take good care of it. Just looking for a place to run the dogs and enjoy ourselves. Thanks again!!!

i love hunting that country. It has alot of nice country you can hunt and its not rough at all in my opinion. Some places can get nasty but most of it is very huntable. I caught a big red bear behind hanigan meadows in november last year but that whole area gets hunted real hard by alot of people and the bears seem hard to catch in the earlier season, they all seem to have their running shoes on.

I have never hunted Alpine, but I have a home there, fish there every summer. I just got my hounds last fall, and hope to hunt around the area a bit this fall for cats and maybe bears... Rockman, you interested? lol, I am not a guide, just a goodoleboy from NM.

I have a couple friends in Pheonix that I may take to kill the runners, but I may not.. As for the country, its not as rough as a lot of the Gila or Jemez, but parts are really rough, it is connected to the Gila range and like I said some parts are really rough.
