Buckshot's first coyote, One year old beagle.

Aren't you afraid the dog will get killed. I've been trying to break my beagles off of them because I'm worried they will get led into an ambush.

I'm just starting this but guys that have been doing it for a few years have not lost a dog yet to coyotes.

It still scares me. My beagles love 'em and I've shocked them several times but they still want to run the crap out of them. I wish they had GPS collars that were smaller for the beagles.

Yeah I dont think coyotes will try to ambush your beagles

i run my garmins on my beagles all the time i put the name tag at the end of the collar and it fits the beagles great an they fit most of the hounds also.

Been told by many coon hunters an some coyote hunters that use big hounds that beagles wont work but the guys i got my dogs from have been doing it for several years think they have kill 32 in two years only hunting jan thru march and only on snow beagles even bay some beagles dont push coyote hard and they circle hunt like rabbits hunt with shotguns trick is dont let coyote wind hunter or they staight line out there coyote killed sat ran 7 mile but never left a half mile sq of swamp 4 hours till buddy got in the circle with wind right

I dont know much about beagles but the only reason I wouldnt use beagles is if you get a runner that really goes im not sure a beagle would be able to keep up due to the fact that they are a shorter dog.. Like I said not a beagle expert so all the beagle hunters dont take this the wrong way

a group that hunts out by us has a bunch of beagles. they have a large group of guys but they kill 60-100 yotes with them a year, depending on snow and such but they do just as well as our running walkers. it definitely helps if you have a guy or two that will walk behind them. they usually run at least 2 and sometimes 5 or so. idk if they run in larger packs where you are located but we jump as many as 4 in a section every once in a while and dont have a problem with ambushes

What ever works for you. Personally I think the faster. the hound the better. Maybe for a jump dog but if that s all you use then I guess it doesn't matter. I like my long legged running walkers

i hope im wrong ,but i think running one beagle will end badly eventually .especially if you run them when the coyotes start denning and pupping out this spring. coyotes turn the hunt when they have a reason to fight. some big hounds get put to the road. a beagle can also fit into any den a coyote does putting it at more risk.i would at least get more beagles so there is a little more intimidation and power of the pack. just my 2 cents .

I've seen it done with 12" beagles in Canada. Not with just one dog though. That's looking for trouble.

Our final tally for this year was 85 coyotes here in North-Central Ohio. All 85 were shot over my beagles. We also took 4 red fox. I have been doing this for 10 years now. I have been in on well over 500 kills. We have not yet lost a dog to the coyotes. This is a blast!!! I am still thrilled on every hunt. As one of the old timers says "A poor man's bear hunt". Randy and Anthony came up from MD and bought a couple of great young propects.

This is cool. Never heard of using beagles on Yotes. I have brought my Jagdterrier on a few stands while calling for yotes but never let her run them. Just have her sit next to me while calling. Most times she sees them or winds them before I know they are there. I have the same apprehension about running 1 small dog on yotes. Though I know Jagds are the grittiest little demons, dont know how she'll do with 2 or 3 yotes on her.
