sure could be, but it looks a little messy and too deep compared to the ones I've seen. Most of the time, it seems like they just make a swpie or 2 with their feet, just enough to make a neat little pile.....

Back in the day that there were few lions a guy could make a scratch with his hand that would look like that. If you made it on a know lion crossing and casually mention that you seen a lion scratch, the place it was but don't tell anyone. You could sure have the rest of the country to yourself. Dewey

You can see all kinds of markers made by lions from the simple kick on the move mark that Catdogs talked about to a nice neat reflective one like this or I have seen where super toms would pull up a scrape 2 foot high in deep pine neededle and scurf, looked like they were thinking of bailing hay. LOL! so you just never know, and i have seen some man made ones that would fool the keenest eyes. If they are as fresh as that one looks put old Blue on it and if he rears way back and says AAAAWWWW!!!! It's a lion scrape. LOL!

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure it was at least a day old because there was one track about 50 yards from it in the snow that I know was over a day old. Unfortunately I didn't have my dog with me, but I have been checking the area every day.

Do toms return to their scrapes or stick around the area they make them?

I hunt on a fairly small indian reservation where I've never seen anybody else with dogs, and rarely see anybody up there after December. Plus this was over 100 yards from the road, and there's not many people I know that hunt up there that venture that far from their vehicle

So I very strongly doubt somebody was up there trying to fool me, and if they did, I'm sure they wouldn't have chose a location that was a little less random and easier to find.
