AGUA CALIENTE, Calif. (AP) - Sonoma Valley residents are breathing a sigh of relief after a mountain lion spotted in one neighborhood was captured and removed from the area.
A resident of Agua Caliente (AW-gwuh caw-lee-'EHN-tay) called the sheriff's department yesterday to report the large cat lounging in the branches of a redwood tree in a backyard.
Authorities secured the area and asked neighbors to stay indoors. Deputies then shot the 60-pound animal with a tranquilizer dart, placed it in a wooden crate and hauled it away.
Biologists will evaluate the mountain lion before releasing it in a wildlife preserve.
