I normally keep the dogs in kennels so I just havent dealt with it much. But I ran out of room and have one on the chain and I've got to unwind her every other day. If I have to deal with it I will but when I come home in a rain storm and she cant get to her box because her chain is wound so short that she cant reach, well theres gotta be something I can do. Any helps good help. Thanks in advance.

Get a good quality swivel snap and if needed, add an additional swivel.

Swiveks and flush to the ground with your spike. I just use a trappers stake for mine.

I have 3, one at the base, one inline the chain, one on the snap.

I use one at both ends and have never had a problem. How big of chain are you using?

I drive an axle through a harness ring. The harness ring is attached to a swivel and chain. There is another swivel at the other end which clips onto the dogs collar. This is a typical setup for a yard of bulldogs and works great.
