I'm just getting started and have been casting my hounds have had a few trash race but have ran a few cats after talking with a gentlemen tonight I'm thing of rebuilding my box to rig. What do yall think

Rigging allows you to select when you feed a dog in to a race vs. casting.
Casting takes broke dogs to keep things in order. You can hunt a trashy young dog from the rig deck by turning down once the older broke dog has lined out the track. I think you have better control rigging vs. casting. When you cast your hounds and have a young dog starting out and it hits trash, you go to shocking on the dog before the dog understands its desired quarry, you pose the risk of setting the dog back from running anything.I like to ship a young dog in on dozens of good tracks and then set the dog up on undesired game and use sound burst followed up by only enough shock to shut the dog down followed up by quickly returning the dog to good game with positive praise rewards for doing things right.

Yes sire I'm gonna rebuild my box and start working on it now and then try and find them some track from the road and maby one of my two yerlings will pick it up but all 3 of my hounds come from new mexico were the old walker was casted unless they had snow and were able to put them on a fress track and both pups were started casting. I would love to come up there to arkansas and check out yalls operation just give me a holler thanks

With young dogs, you have a lot of bobcats in the southeast you may do better casting them if you can tell if they are on a cat. Carry them on the dog box when you can and hunt with any old cat hunters in your area that will let you tag along. Good luck Dewey

If you have an older hunter it’s nice to have hounds that rig off the box so they can enjoy the race. It’s one of the many advantages of be able to rig off the box.

Since you live in Texas and it's hot keep that in mind when you build your box. Mine has full openings on the sides, front and back. In the summer I just use a chain with several connections across the bed of the truck and use plywood for them to stand on. Once the sun get's hot I put them up.

Thanks mr dewey I haven't found any body around here that run cats I pm a gut that I herd lived close but didn't here any thing back I have one red tick pup that will trash on deer but I can tell win he does he will have his nose to ground hunting win my old dog won't but I can call him off with in a few hundred yard my other pup she packs with the old walker but she may trash in time the red tick has seen a few cats and been hunted I think she hasn't been so she don't no what to run yet

Thank jtg I built my box out of 1 in square tubing and hog panels around the side but I put tin on top so I will have to ad a rail on top and replace the tin with ply wood I was thinking of spraying the ply wood with that flex seal it comes in white and will give them some grip also I'm going to run them over around del rio ill start them around 4 in the morning and shut it down around noon win its hot out there

Hey Tim, I used to have a rigging box several years ago when I hog hunted. Go get you some Indoor Outdoor carpet and put on top. Get a light color to not hold much heat. Or, I some of that felt from the papermill, if you want to cut a piece big enough for your top. The spray on stuff would be fine, but #1 it will make your box a little heavier, #2 might not be as comfortable for your hounds if their gonna be standing up there all day, and then having to run all day. You want to make things as good for 'em as you can. I went roading again the other morning, and found 1 set of tracks. The forestry burnt the woods over the weekend, but it'll be growing again in a few weeks.
