I have several clubs that allow me to trap, but they do not allow dogs. I am going to hit the cats with the cages soon. Using live traps I would like to relocate the cats for training to my grounds. What is likely to happen when he gets in this new unfamiler area and getting ran? Will the cat leave the territory? Will he still run big loops and try to loose dogs? Will they take a tree quickly? Y'all give me some feedback if you have had experience. I realize it is better to catch and release on same area, but these places want these cats removed anyway and of course fur season is over, so will this work? I also realize that relocating and leaving him alone will give him time to ajust and all that, but he may still leave the area anyways, so I'm thinking of getting a training session out of each one. All right, what do you think folks!

At this time of year I would keep just males because some the females have young litters now and others will have litters soon.
If you trap and move them they will travel at least 50 miles to find their way back. If you let them loose in a new location and turn older dogs loose most of the time they will catch them on the ground. If it's just a few young pups just wet him down and give him a head start, however I would do just a few times.

If u want them to stick around the new area , I would leave them in the trap over night at the new spot. Don't know if it would help but that is what I would do. Like jtg said don't waste the cat by turning dogs loose on it . They will kill it on the ground.

They will stay pretty good if there is enuff food and enuff land and briars... fill the hunting places up and I will jog em around for you pretty soon!

Hey Rod, I'm gonna hold you to it! Made a round yesterday morning in the club. We had a rain the night before and thought I thought I might find a fresh track. I drove over six miles and didn't find one cat track. Talk about dissapointing. There are plenty of cats, but what is the deal, did they just not move much after the rain? Found 3 different fox sets though. Some of the roads are rock so I couldn't see sign good anyway. Ill be trapping on another spot about 30 miles away, and relocating. Getting ready for next winter and 20 + hounds from N.C.!

You guys sure have it easy out there. Drove 6 miles and did not start a track. Some days I drive 150 miles and not start a track. My fuel bill during kill season usually runs $1200 a month. Wish I was there. Dewey
