Hi guys.. just some questions for the knowlegeable..What is the purpose of the Astro recognising jpgs? Can it show them on it's screen?. Secondly as I hunt in NZ their packaged maps seem useless for my purposes so can I safely delete them and just use my NZ map on the microsd card?. I could than use the "in house" memory for other maps
In anticipation..cheers

Yes, jpegs, can be shown on screen, why you would need this feature, I dont know. Yes you can delete other maps and just use your sd card. Just got back from the South Island on a 2 week hunting trip. Great trip! Cheers.

Glad you enjoyed your Southern excursion and the beer I hope! The only reason I would use the jpgs is to puton photos of my dogs . I hunt a busy forest so showing someone a pix of a lost dog might help maybe. So how do you show them on the screen?
cheers

I believe you can either load them on an sd card or directly into the memory through the cord and your computer. Then just "enable" it on the map choice screen. Not sure tho, never did it.

Tried last night to view images but looks like the system needs a picture viewer. Some Garmins have them but not this model. Have emailed Garmin to see if they do an after sale update

There currently is no way to view a jpeg file on these systems. Might be one of those bells and whistles most dont want, or need. I could see using it once in awhile. In these systems the jpeg file is mostly used to save a screen shot. Which you then have to load to your computer to view. Yes, there are other models that let you use them. Might be something in the software that does not allow the use of them, or could be changed to use them. Might just be one of those things they did not think dog hunters would use. Then, that could be said about the geocacheing?
Yes, you can delete all the unwanted map, and birdseye files. Just make sure you dont delete the wrong files. Most of us dont have a need for the grand canyon map.
