Recently i have gotten 2 running walkers for coyote hunting. These are the first hounds i have owned. I am not planning on running them until the snow flies. I am feeding them Diamond Performance. On the back it says 2 cups for 40 - 60 pound dogs. I have been feeding them 2 cups, is this good or should i be feeding more or less?

Depends on the dogs. Mine very a lot from one dog to another. If they get to fat cut there food back . If to thin give them more. I have one that gets fat on hardly anything. Had to buy some low calorie dog food for her because I was afraid she wasn't getting enough nutrition with the amount of food she was getting. Have another that gets all he will eat and stays about right unless I am hunting him hard. Then cant keep him fat without adding meat. Good Luck, Larry

Is there any guidelines for looking at your dog and knowing about how much fat they should have on them?

For my dogs I like to be able to feel ribs (not have to dig for them) but not be able to see them or should not be able to see hip bones or back bones, the dog shouldn't have saggy belly or fat rolls on hips. I would feed them the recommended amount and if they start getting fat or skinny adjust how much from there. Like Larry I too have a dog who could get fat off dirt and one who can eat as much as possible and doesn't effect him.
