S#@t talking and rumors?

I'm relatively new to hounds, 2 years or so. I've caught game and done OK, I work and train hard with my dogs and really don't know the meaning of quit! I've met a few local houndsmen (so called) in their mid 20s that have been their and done that. I'm in my mid thirties and see through the bs! After all the lies and rumors, I'm putting game in the tree and their spreading lies that I'm a poacher and illegal. One actually is a fed/gov hunter that got an in from his daddy! I could careless what others think but when rumors are DFG are interested in me I wonder? I'm legit but what lies are being told? What's your experience? I'm thinking jealousy! I work my ass off and put miles + in to catch game not counting hours/weeks in training and flat out hard work! I walked 10+ miles today to see a 300# sow with a cub in a tree! (Only a mile race, 10 total with hiking and free casting). I ignore the be and rub my little success in to just give them the finger. Am I wrong? What's your thoughts?

JasongNV, I've been in the same boat so i know what you're going through .I believe it's jealousy pure and simple!Another reason is they don't want you hunting in the same area they do because you catch game and they don't .The trouble is the cops think these creeps are telling the truth, especially if they work or volunteer for the Fish and Game Dept.

JEALOUSY. I HAVE GOT IT IN EVERY STATE I HAVE HUNTED.ONE JERK IN MONTANA THAT HAS NOTHING BETTER TO DO THEN TO TRY AND GET YOU IN TROUBLE. IF THEY SPENT THERE TIME IN THE WOODS THEY COULD CATCH GAME TO.JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING. KEEP IT LEGAL AND FUN FORGET ABOUT THE WANNABES.

Jealously, yes. I will also add intimidation. If you are producing game and the Government hunter isn't, he might just be afraid his bosses will notice his incopitense. This may very well be where the rumor spreading is coming from, fear for losing his job. He's trying to make them believe that your doing it illegal or you couldn't be producing those numbers. I've always felt that if people aren't talking $#!+ about you, your not out performing them. I take it as a compliment and know I'm right where I need to be. Remember the $#!+ comes out behind you... so your way ahead of the ones talking it.

If you are legal, and I have no reason to believe your not. You might want to contact the DF&G. I'd ask them if they are indeed interested in you and just what they wanted to know. I'd also invite them on a hunt with you if they're interested. Show them just how your legally catching game. This will develop a good relationship between you and the DF&G. It may also raise a red flag for the guys spreading these rumors and the bosses may begin to wonder why he's not catching game. Just a thought and something I would do myself.

Hard work and success is never rewarded with compliments these days. I bet the guys talking only hunt the day after the storms and perfect conditions and are drinking beer flapping their gums when you are out catching game. Congratulations on your success as a new hound man. If you hit that side of the state hard you will catch a lot of game. I know I used to hunt over there pretty hard. Like Shorty said so well, all that $#!+ comes out behind you and they are the ones that are stepping in it.

I agree with all of you. My first thoughts were jealousy and intimidation with a little immaturity added in. I do have to say that the govt hunter does catch game but its not like the rest of us. Bait piles and sheep killers with 45min old tracks. Private land and the means to do anything necessary makes things a lot easier and that's plain and simple. I don't let it get to me and really kinda find it funny. When they act like your friend then turn around and talk does piss me off. My solution is to out run, out catch and have fun. People are seeing how I hunt and figuring it out fast.

The reason most of us hunt is to see and enjoy our hound/hounds work and put a critter up a tree.If you worry to much about what others think it can spoil that enjoyment.Don't let it ! Silentnight ,We all have to start somewhere .My memory is not that great anymore but i still remember when i didn't know much and did almost everything wrong at first but i stuck with it and i learned.Just remember they'll criticize you when you're a novice and they'll bad mouth you when you become a pro.Hang in there !

I saw some of this same crap with guys who won't even turn their dogs go till they think they have a lion jumped. I just made sure to stay transparent with fish and game and the landowners I hunt on. Screw them. If people are running their mouths, you must be doing it right and they need to sack up and remember what its all supposed to be about. We all need to mind our own business until a fellow houndsman needs our help. Let the law take care of the shady guys and stick to hunting.

The above is what is wrong. The other guys are definetily jealous but you are making it worse by rubbing it in. I am pretty successful with my dogs but I share information about my hunting with only a few trusted people. I like to keep a low profile as I hunt for personal reasons. If I tree 10 to one of what the average guy trees that is my satisfaction to know and not anybody else's business.

So if you continuely talk about all your successes the rumors will continue.

Dhostetler, I misstated in that comment. I do not run my mouth at all, as a matter of fact being new to hounds I prefer to listen, use what might work for me and seperate the b.s. from truth the best I can. "Rubbing in" meaning people wanting to hunt with me mainly because I work hard, avoid the b.s. talking and just want to have fun and watch my dogs work. I definitely don't make any claims or talk me or my dogs up.

Really Jason theses so call shit talkers have tried to help you and have invited you to hunt Matter of fact I was the first hounds man to take you out hunting and try to show you the ropes, but after being a rookie and having 8 dogs and trying to train them all and not taking advise by having a couple dogs to train instead of a bunch of cull dogs from every internet hounds man on here. It became more of a hassle and was better for you to learn the hard way. we even tried to send you down the right path after your hiccup on this chat by posting a picture of a bear you illegally ran and caught. I take offense I tried to help you in many ways but once you were on f&g radar we had to separate our self's from the un wanted attention. even after that you were invited to hunt and never showed up and missed out on a lion. You were shun after you went back to doing thing the wrong side of the law. The last season of California you ran with me so I am sure that I'm not jealous of the one sow and cub you caught. As for easy lion hunting and being privilege nothing about hunting lion is easy you will see when you catch your first one. Figured I set the record straight since we are some mid 20's kids who have been doing this our whole life's and come from long line of hounds men who legitimately tried to help you out so we don't have more bad hounds men giving us black eyes.

ask your self if you are a dogman or you want to impress others. a true dogman don't build a dogbox to suit others, dont own dogs to suit others, don't drive trucks to suit others, and don't keep score to compare too others. a dogman trains dogs to suit himself and when u measure up to that,,,,,,you become a dogman...enjoy the dogs and the pride when you finish out a pack jmo......oh yea gov hunters in nev danm sure don't have it easy one of my personal friends works for the outfit as he calles it and he tells me he has a hard time getting a young dog on enough game ..to train it in nev and the man is as honest as they come.
