Just wanting to get some opinions about this? I've got two pretty decent lion dogs and I am going to be able to hunt a lot this winter and was wondering what peoples opinions would be of having somebody else that can hunt a lot take your dog out. I wouldnt mind taking another dog or two along to fine tune them. Just curious what you pros think.

I am no way near a pro but have loaned my older hounds out to younger guys getting startedstarted many time. I would sure rather see them go get some exercise and maybe teach a young new comercomer a teachings than have them set at home on the chain. Have loaned out to a few on this site also ad have made there whole season a plus rather than a negative season. Andy

Just be very careful who you loan em to. accidents can happen any time, and dogs can get killed or maimed or injured wether you're there to run them or not. The most important thing to know is that the gentlemen you're loaning your dogs to can take care of them or replace em when something does happen. I once was working and some buddies of mine called me saying they had just jumped a lion while they were out snowmobiling. I got excited and told em to go ahead and get a couple of dogs from the house and go run that sumbitch. They did, and the dogs caught the lion alright, however a nasty ground fight ensued and one of my best dogs had her back leg crushed by the lion before it was all said and done. One of my buddies paid the entire $3500 vet bill while the other maintained his innocence in the matter and accepted absolutely no responsibility. So if your friends are anything like Chad Staley from Pinedale, wyoming.......(sorry....had to throw that in steer clear from letting your dogs be handled by anyone but yourself.

Not a chance.

I wouldn't mind loaning a friend my dogs but I wouldn't unless they have been hunting with me a few times to see what you do and don't do. If it was in wolf country then haha no thanks.

Have out my older semi retired dogs many times to young Hunters rather have them killed by a cat doing something are breed to do rather than set on the chain most of the season. Now my main dogs that is a little different. Andy

1st you better know that "hunter" very well--
and things can surely go sour at the best of intentions--
some years back I sent a good solid female to a fellow to hunt and raise a litter from his good old dog..
well she caught a porkie which we do not have here so out comes the Tri-tronics... broke her of Porkies.
next--- armadillos.. broke off them... then one night he THOUGHT she ran a fox-- you guessed it she was on the tree and got fried... the ol girl was broke from treeing coon. would still run them
it took about 6 months to get her to where she would tree again.
I loaned a male to a cousin in the 70's he got the dog to leaving trees..needless to say it took a bunch of work and luck to ammend the situation

at best you most likely will have some re-training to do

so now I would just as soon not do it.

I have a story about someone else's dog. I wasn't borrowing a dog but I was training a young dog for a guy I met on here. I was training it to hunt hogs. His dog was coming along great! He was about a year old and huntin hard, following my dogs and learning to be a strike dog.
Well I have a job where I'm away from home for weeks at a time. My room mates take care of my dogs when I'm gone. Well the dog started acting lethargic and the next mornin he's dead. He had chewed up a little blue plastic swimming pool I put in the pen for them to keep cool. Well he swallowed some of it. I think he also ate some carpet I had hanging on the kennel. I tried to get a vet to do a autopsy but they said it's no use. The dog had been dead too long and his intestines were most likely going to be almost liquified. He had set in the summer heat for several hours before he was put on ice.

The point is to make sure to be overly careful with someone else's dog.

I still feel horrible over it. They didn't blame me but it's my fault since I had accepted responsibility for the dog.

Never lend or borrow anything without letting the person know what's expected if something goes wrong.Let them know beforehand that if the dog gets killed you expect to be reimbursed and tell them how much the dog is worth.Or if it's a friend let them know whatever happens happens and it's a no fault deal .DON'T make up conditions AFTER something happens !

I have loaned out my dogs to people I know and have also run other peoples dogs and have had no bad experiences. If I had a dog that got killed or injured while being hunted like I usually do, I would not require re-imbursement. However if my dog got accidently shot or run over or left out overnight that person would never use another one of my dogs and I would expect full re-imbursement.

Whenever you turn loose on a Big Game track there are numerous ways dogs can get killed. By the animal you are running, falling off cliffs, drowning are just a few. If you loan a dog out you should be prepared to accept the fact that could happen.

Wow, kinda sketchy subject if you ask me. Personally no way in hell will I loan out my dogs. Far too many things to happen. If you want to keep a friend a friend I recommend not loaning them your dogs. However maybe I care for my dogs too much? Not being sarcastic. Too much time and energy goes into them. People who don't know hounds can screw up even a solid hound real quick. Just my thoughts.

I think it's all about been covered the things you really need to consider is do you trust this person and what happens when something goes wrong and biggest is that a risk you are willing to take. To me there are few that I would loan a dog to, but if I do I do knowing something might go wrong, if it is in the "line of duty" thats a risk that is taken, weather your there or not and demanding payment is juvenile. If something happens because something stupid was done then thats to be worked out between those involved. Really only you can make the choice.

You don't loan your wife out. Right! I personally would not .No one knows your hounds better than yourself so trusting another person with your hounds just doesn't sound like a good idea. But that's just me.
