Roundworms are intestinal parasite. There are dirrent species of roundworms, most of them specific to different mammal species. An adult roundworm can very in length and I think is best described as looking like the large bean sprouts they use in chinese cooking. You do not see these in a dogs stool, as far as I know only the eggs are moved out in the feces, in order to spread and colonize new hosts.
The only way to determine if your dog has roundworms is to have your vet test a stool sample. However, this parasite is very treatable with a bunch of over the counter wormers so if you suspect roundworms in your dog I would just treat him or her. In fact if your dog is on once a month heartworm preventative (Ivermectin) then I doubt it would have roundworms. Possibly tapeworms but not roundworms. You do see tapeworm in a dogs stool if they are heavily infected, they look like flattened pieces of rice and if it is a fresh stool you will see them moving.
Good luck.

there are three or four round red blotches, small like maybe 1/2 inch diameter, on the inside of his hind flanks, any ideas ?
