Me and a couple of my hunting partners are looking into getting hunting radios for our pickups so we can run different roads and communicate to each other. Just looking for some recomondations on what to look into or purchase. Looking for something that is going to be able to make communication at least 10 - 15 miles. Looking forward to the input.

Yaesu radios are about the best I have used. I worked in the woods and that is all I used. Mine are set up to select any frequency I want. I also have hand held ones that do the same.

Good old CB radios still work pretty darn well.

There is a outfit here in Mt called the antenna farm. The fella is a little brash but knows his stuff. I run Kenwood and love them. You should get that range with a portable unit easy. Take care to have them installed unless you are up on running antennas. You can look them up online. I find their prices to be very competitive.

First get FCC License (about $800) and a private business channel or get Ham operators License which is required to use a Icom or yasue then keep it turned off unless you have a assigned call sign by fcc or risk getting a felony and a 5,000 dollar fine if you get caught (trust me get the license first) then but a two channel 25w radio with a tone squelch

We use ICOMS Kenwood and Motorolas. The only problem I see is after everyone had to switch to narrow band the distance in a lot shorter. Here in Michigan it seems that in the farm ground the distance still seems alright(still not the same) but where we train and hunt in thicker cover it its not near as good as it was.

I have a kenwood dual band in my truck and really like it. One of my buddy's runs on marine band and my other buddy has a repeater channel. That way I can talk to either one. I use the puxing and wouxun dual band hand helds they work good too. Alot better then the regular two way radios

We use them when deer hunting and just pleasure running coyote or fox at night. Cobra 25 with a 250 Texas star kicker hooked up right can get you miles of communication. We keep them in our trucks year round. We talk for miles to other hunting groups to see how they are doing or to get them to track a lost dog for someone. Just tools of the trade here in the south. 4 wd, cb radio , mud tires , dog box and a pack of running walkers.
