Do any of you guys on here, have any advice on convincing a farmer to let you hunt on their land? I want to hunt on a farmers property, but don't know what to ask him.

A bit of advise-- just wear your normal clothes--- as a land owner myself. it surely upsets me when someone comes knocking on my door in full camo expecting to hunt right then

go well ahead of when you can get out to hunt and ask permission and explain that you will be responsible if in the event you should have a mishaps that will injure yourself. also be very specific about what you want to hunt.. another thing that I stress when giving permission to hunt is that they ABSOLUTELY do not bring others to hunt with them..

in the past there was one fellow that ask permission to hunt and in just a couple of weeks here was 5 others hunting. needless to say that does not go well with most land owners

expect to knock on several doors and in the event that they say no thank them for their time and just maybe in the future they might remember you.

showing up with a 5th of crown royal never hurts. So yer out $30 if they say no. if they are on the fence about letting you it usually gets the job done.

A few years ago I was asking the same question to a Rancher in North Central Montana....He said...... you know the Hutterites Colony owns some ground out towards Belt and when you approach them you say....."Hutter ite as@ permission ta hunt ya'lls property"

Larry probably has the better plan....

Good Luck!

Happy New Year to All!

I have great ranches that people would dream to hunt and I think the reason I'm so well liked and got a full green light is because I always offer my help in hand with work around the ranch and really go out of my way to make chores there easier for them. This always shows your qualities and honesty and doesn't look so much like u want something for nothing.then U can build a relationship with them

Start out by maybe askin to trade a couple days of hunting for a cord of wood or any other work they might be done and then work hard and do over and beyond the worth of a couple days of hunting . That's pretty much your best bet. Even if someone let u hunt out of good faith it never hurts to offer your help too!

Well the farms over here raise sweet corn and I know that there are coon in there. So I was planning on telling them that I would take care of that problem by hunting with my hound. Do you think that would work? Would you think farmers would like that idea?

live traps could cure there problem without u so I say no their going to have to know to trust and like u being there and that don't really give them enough in my opinion

Don't go when it's there busy time of day or year. If they do say no, I always go back once or twice a year until they give me permission or tell me not to step foot on there property again. Usually after a few times of stopping by it works. Also small talk goes a long ways, don't ask them turn around and leave. There are times I will BS with them for 30 minutes or more and they will warm up to you a little.

Do farmers have problems with coyotes(cow farmers) because I was considering helping them out, and then hunting their land in exchange?
