I caught my first bobcat this morning and wasnt even hunting really. Ive been out at least 30 or 40 times and come up with lots of cold tracks and a big ol batch of nothing. To be honest i was getting a bit discouraged. This morning my dog was being exceptionally irritating and seemed incapable of standing still, so i decided that id load her up and let her run it out a bit. I let her out of the truck and after driving about 2 miles or so with the dog diving into the heavy cover and getting a real good workout in i was about satisfied that she would calm down and quit being a pest. All of a sudden she opened up like ive never heard her before, and she took off at a dead sprint. I grabbed the tritronics transmitter thinking sure id see a deer or something running off. Much to my surprise i instead saw a small bobcat darting out across a big grassy area with my dog about 50 yards behind it. I watched the bobcat disappear into the junipers and shortly after my dog quit moving. I grabbed my rifle and walked (ran frantically) across the field to where my dog was treed. As soon as i saw the cat it dove out of the tree and right as it hit the ground the dog grabbed ahold of it. The cat went totally ballistic and got loose and took off again, walker in tow. It treed 3 more times and each time when i got to the tree it would dive out and run off. Finally it got into some real rocky caves and all i could see was a tiny bit of fur about 10 feet under a rocky overhang where i couldnt get to it and neither could my dog. After giving my dog a good looking over trying to find battle wounds (only one small scratch on the inside of her lip) I let her bark and try find a way to get her catch out of the rock for about 30 minutes. If it werent for having to work in a little while im sure id still be there with a shovel or something trying to get that little sucker out of there. Im really hoping that her running the cat a few times helps her out in the future, and next time i hope the little sucker stays in the tree. I had a great time and hope to get back after it again soon with a little reignited spark. If anyone has a suggestion on how to keep one in the tree im all ears.

Thats awesome good for you and your dog. Was probably just a cra head of a cat wanting to bail all the time. If anything I hope it helps the dog she was able to tree it multiple times so now she know cats go up tree's. Anyways keep hunting, and post pics

I would have loved to have taken pics but it just wasn't happening, mostly because I didn't have time, but even if I had time, in my excitement I bailed out of the truck, left my camera and phone in it, door wide open and engine running.

Congrats brother. I have just got into it and have had a few races but none caught for the kill treed one 4 times yesterday before dogs lost out which I had 2 young dogs running it and both are young dogs. Plus I'm running cats with no snow at all in terribly thick brush. God bless the good olé coast of NC. Anyway good luck to you hope there's more to come for ya
