Sent from my iPadIf Democrat state rep. Omeria Scott’s House Bill 231 becomes law, Mississippi’s gun owners will no longer have an ounce of privacy during ammunition-related business transactions.
According to Mississippi Gun News, the legislation, which was proposed on Jan. 13, 2014, is nothing short of a statewide ammunition registration.
Ms. Scott wants every merchant who sells a single bullet, which includes stores like Wal-Mart, to keep a written registry of their customers’ names, addresses, social security numbers, as well as copies of their driver’s licenses.
This information wouldn’t be merely retained by the business owner; it would also be “open to public inspection at any time to persons desiring to see it.”
HB 231 proposes:
“Every merchant, dealer or pawnbroker that sells pistol or rifle cartridges, shall keep a record of all sales of such cartridges sold, showing the description of the kind and caliber of cartridges so sold, the name, address and driver’s license or social security number of the purchaser, and the description of and the quantity of cartridges and date of sale.”
Only time will tell how the rest of Mississippi’s legislature and its governor will react to Ms. Scott’s proposed legislation and its inherent violation of the state’s citizens’ right to privacy during personal financial transactions…
