Perry Driggers, Rand Phillips and some others hounds holed a bobcat under a big lighterd stump out in the flatwoods one morning about a half mile west of the Dan McKinney place. They could see the cat about 3'down in there but the hole was small enough only one hound at a time could get in it and the cat had backed em all off so they were just baying him. about that time Dan rode up, he had a big box headed ole bulldog with one end of a half inch rope around its neck and the other end tied through the split in the old McClellan saddle he was riding. Rand asked, Mr. McKinney Mr. McKinney what have got that dog on a rope for? Dan said, because he'll catch and kill any dam thing that moves that's why. Rand said,by golly man that's just the dog we need !Dan asked, Why what's going on here? Rand told him, we've got a wildcat in that hole and we can't get him out. Dan untied that bulldog, showed him that cat and he dove in on it. Well sir that ole cat caught him with a claw behind each ear and bit down right on the end of that ole bulldogs nose. He shot out a turd about a foot long. Rand yelled, Purry Purry did you see that dog sh$t? Well ole bulldog got lose from that cat and took off. Dan also had a lil ole fiest looking dog that was following him, well that fiest saw that cat in the hole and got to ducking and dodging in and out of that hole till he finally got a hold of that cat and dragged him out of therefar enough that the hounds finished him. when it quieted down you could hear that bulldog booger barking on porch at the McKinney Place. Rand ask, Mr. McKinney Mr. McKinney were is that badass bulldog? Dan answered, Mr. Phillips, I've heard all I want to hear about that bulldog!

A great story, I believe I've heard before. I never knew Mr Rand Phillips, but I spent many hours with his brother, Byron Phillips, in the 60's & 70's around Arcadia, Fl. We caught a lot of cats and had lots of fun. Mr Byron talked a lot about his brother, who he refered to as "Little Rand", I assume Their Father might have been named Rand, also. I remembered hearing him tell this story. thanks for sharing it with us. I'll try to recall some of his stories and share them also. I'll hush now, John

Yes, I got to say that was a good story. I guess it is true that it is not how big the dog is in the fight but how much fight is in the dog. Good hunting everyone. deer season ends 1-31-14 and I'm ready to go cat hunting.
