Might be fun to hear some of the excuses people make for their dogs when they don't get a critter up a tree. Keep in mind that it's never the dogs fault...unless its the other guys dog!
Anyone have a good one?

Lol. If every member posted on this subject it would surely become my most favorite EVER! This time of year my favorite is "dogs are out of shape" or "ran out of snow". Im headed for the hills tomorrow and will probably have a few more. I've got away from paying attention to the negative details and when I close my tailgate after the dogs are in I just say "F#####g CULLS!" Universal and simple...

My first thought was"I don't make excuses". I usually hunt alone so i don't have to make an excuse for anyone. Then i thought about it a little more. Now this potlicker of mine isn't as good as some,so i don't catch a cat every time i go hunting. So i asked myself"What do you blame your lack of success on ?".Then it hit me ,i use the time honored excuse........the WEATHER! lol

I learned a long time ago, don't ever brag up a dog until it's dead and gone!

I learned a long time ago don't brag on a dog, he will be a dog sooner or later, most everytime I go my wife will text me and ask if doing anything, several time I told her yea they naturally after his fanny, and most of the time probably before she got what I sent back he had done run out from under them, when I quit replying like that, seemed like it would go on he didn't run out from under them, so I told her if she got one that said maybe a little it ment they were driving one, brother inlaw went with me one nite, had 2 sounded like they were baying something, one was suppose to be 100% broke he asked me wonder what they got, I said fox or cat cause that one wont mess with anything else, so on and on it went, we walked in they had a possum , made a liar out of me haha, I just admit most of the time sorry dogs anymore, I have come to the conclusion, no one has anything much better than anyone else, cause there all dogs

Now that is a good one! I knew that in my mind but had just never heard it put into words.
I don't guess there is an excuse I haven't heard from others or used myself. I don't know why we ALL can't just can't come to grips with what we all know. Every dog is going to have some good days and bad days. I have had one dog that was probably as straight as a dog could be and would be at the tree 99.9% of the time and not just following another dog or the pack but yes she did have some days that weren't even worth mentioning. She was a way above average dog but she still had bad days. I try to think if the tables were turned how many excuses my dogs would have to make for my ignorant a$$. Kinda keeps me in check.

Ain't that the truth.
No matter what some of the great internet hunters try to tell you.

the excuse i like the best is they need more time at three plus years of age.even though the dogs had lots of opportunity.they just need to see a couple more.

That dogs only behind because they got a loose out on her. I know there was a cat in that tree but I couldnt find it because the tree was to bushy .They only ran that coyote because its breeding season. Heres one from last night, the country was to steep and rocky no one could catch a cat here. Most of us that are honest have used them all.

The best hounds and hunters are not going to catch every cat. I am not the best and never own the best hound. No need to make an excuse, no longer need to be competitive , just enjoy hunting hope for the best. That's what getting old has done. Al

If you consistently find your self making excuses, and being satisfied making them. You should probably get acquainted with lead pills. It will allow you to be truthful with yourself. And that is way more important than worrying about what others think.
Take care, Willie

"I have heard a cat can sometimes pull his scent!" It's my belief if we turned loose fewer hounds we would not have to make so many excuses .
