Hey guys I live in a small town in SW Washington. Do you guys think I would be able to get away with keeping a pair of hound dogs there? Any tips? I have heard of people in the 70s and 80s just down the street doing it. I am sure there are some in town now I just don't know where. I see guys running around with hounds.

I used to live in town my dogs earned me some tickets but with bark collars and working them lot s you can do it. Just remember the more you run them the happier they are and that will help.

I live in the city and it works.... I sure as heck am trying to find a place in the country as soon as we can afford it, but for now we deal with it.

You get the odd complaint but just as Dexter said, you have to work on them for not barking at every little thing. I think that the bark collars work great as long as you train them to them, just like you would with your shock collar; want them to learn not to bark for nothing... not just to shut up when the collar comes out.

The biggest thing is taking the time to get them out. Isn't the saying 'a tired dog is a well behaved dog' or something to that extent. I know that there are times when work gets busy and they don't get out much for a week or two at a time (its life... it sucks) and they do start to get out of hand. But I just use that as an excuse to go hunting.

Yes its no problem have 5 in town 4 under the age two. It take a little while but with shock collars and a firm hand in the middle of the night they catch on fast. Just don't give them a inch. The best trick I've learned is when they have learned the collar is on them take it of and hang it on the kennel fence that tone sound works wonders and then they don't get collar smart. Good luck.

It can work, at one time I had 7 hounds in town. I have since downsized to 3. It took some work to keep the dogs quiet, but no problems with the neighbors. In fact the closest neighbor would go to the butcher shop and buy them hotdogs. When my old hound died, the neighbor and his wife cried because they had a bond with him, and thought of him as their own.
