One of my hounds tested positive for anaplasma. What I know about it is that it is a tick born disease and I am treating it with doxycycline. Anybody know any more. Didn't get to run him much this winter due to selling my home so I couldn't tell if it had any effects with him tracking. Trying to get him cleared for bear season.

Not much. I always thought it could come from ANY tick but I was wrong, it is just like lymes and can only come from the deer ticks.

We had a dog that got it, went un diagnosed for too long and really changed the dog. We eventually got him back to "healthy" but was never the same dog again stamina/personality/ability wise. Just my one experience, I'm sure its similar to lymes and dogs can come back fully fine from it if treated correctly.

Yep it's just like lymes and treated the same. I think it is actually a little more mild than lymes. If you can catch it fairly early it is no big deal. Dogs generally snap out of it quickly once they get on doxy. Heck my lab had it this fall while on frontline, knocked him down for a couple weeks and you can't tell the difference now. I keep doxy on hand just for lymes and anaplasmosis.

Whats the symptoms ??

Only real difference I saw was him just not wanting to get out of his do house and into the kennel. I wouldn't have caught it but my hounds were due for rabbies vaccination so I took them to my vet and she does blood work for lymes and other things.

In cattle Anaplasmosis is often fatal..
the eyes get kinda yellow looking and soon they go down and if not treated soon will die. the ones that recover are carriers and are a source of passing the bacteria on to others thru bites of ticks and horseflies.
