What drive's you to continue to chase the short-tail. Is it not knowing the out come of the hunt. You wanna finally see a cat in a tree. I'm just curious to see what motivates someone to keep going back... And WHY???

The hardship and challenge of it. I am the kind of person that loses interest in something once I master it so to speak. Looks like I will be obessed with hounds forever...lol Plus I have always enjoyed the company of dogs.

The quality of hound work it takes to get a bobcat jumped, but most of all the intensity of the race once they get him in the short rows.

Watching the progress of the pups and young dogs in the pack. If it wasn't for them, I'd probably just stay at home.

Mostly, my wife, especially cleaning house, cutting grass, petting the cat & maintaing the house. For sure can/t hunt much, need a dog boy, but can/t afford to hire the wife she wants 50.00 per hour. Hear Mark has a good dog, maybe can talk him in to adopting me & my two trashy mongrels . Al

Bears sleep in the winter and Oregon want let me chase lions. No leopards or ocelots here.

Really it's getting to spend time with my dad and now it's spending time with my daughter too.

All she can talk about is Rusty and Sounder. Geez she is only two and a half.

I had the same problem with mine. I finally taught him to bark once for left and twice for right and just pushed him around in a buck cart. At least now i know what happens on the front end. :D

what keeps me going! well a number of things, first its knowing I raised and bred all the hounds that's running him, knowing I did something right with breeding the to, second its the thrill of watching hounds work knowing I bred all that's there, and third the thrill of the chase weather they catch or not its the music that they make and the love hunting ! I have told a many of people mostly deer hunters that hunt with dogs , they don't know what hounds running something really sounds like till they listen to a pack of hounds that is right up under a bobcat running the starch out of him, I have told them its like standing beside a railroad track with a big freight train bearing down on you at a crossing blowing the horn and shaking the ground, its addictive, one race like that and most are hooked for life

I ask myself why im doing this all the time. spending thousands of dollars a year. missing the kids events. out hunting while the wife is home alone in bed . hopefully lol. I cant give a good answer . its not to kill anything. I don't even care for going to the tree anymore. I think it must be the pride of knowing I trained that dog. or the screaming of 10 dogs when they jump a big stinky tom. followed by that 10 seconds of silence before u hear that long locate bark. Maybe its hearing that pup pickup its first lose or when the old dog finally has the track all by herself and your praying she will catch it before the heard of youngsters gets to her. I think its when your sitting in your truck at 2 am with the windows down eyes closed seat layed back listening to a pack of your dogs giving 1000000% for you. at least u think its for u. someone said on here one time that there dogs hunt for them. I disagree . I hunt for my dogs . when I don't want to get out of my chair because im tired I think about the dogs sitting in the kennel . I HUNT BECAUSE THEY WANT TOO. . that's why I hunt
