Hey guys,
I'm writing a paper for my English class on any topic that is affecting people in the U.S. today. I'm writing on hound hunting and how it is beneficial to our animal populations and how it is a very humane way to hunt and how so many people are trying to take it away from us. Any opinions that some of you experienced houndsmen could give to help support my topic would be greatly appreciated. I'm 18 and had my own hounds since i was 13 but realize i don't have as much experience as you and I respect what you have to say. Hopefully my paper can be beneficial to our cause.
Thanks,
Justin

Justin.
One of the biggest things that dictate our hunting heritage and future and you being 18 is politics....Educate yourself about politics and the folks who oppose our way of life and our hunting heritage and then aim your knowledge towards influencing your friends. Register to vote! ....Ironically there was a threat facing lion hunting in Nebraska just last week and the guy asking for some help right here on this board is a staunch supporter of the party that opposes our hound hunting heritage, the guy is a very qualified houndsmen and makes a living training hounds, but supports the candidates and party that opposes his and our way of life? I think he is confused and if he really was honest with his convictions and core beliefs? He would not support the Democrat party! Do your homework and see what political party wants your guns and your rights.....Always remember, our god given rights are all within the Constitution of the United States of America. Good luck!
I agree with Willy....Mr Mike Leonard would be you best resource for Lion hunting on the board.

I like your topic. A great article that might help you out is "Mule Deer Management: the truth and nothing but the truth". It's great article and explains the effect of predators on other wildlife. Make sure to read part 1 and 2

Justin,as you noted point out how humane hound hunting is as any animal treed can be released or relocated without harm .Also study the consequences of stopping lion hunting In California and Oregon.Things such as the attacks on people ,the increased predation on both domestic livestock and wildlife. You might highlight the fact that cougar are now hunted year round by rifle hunters in Oregon, never getting a rest period from being hunted. You can bet the antis never considered that,or wanted it .Hope this helps or gives you more ideas.

If your looking for references, check out this study. I know this would blend science and English together, but maybe that would help things out with regards to pushing you towards an A.
