Im hoping to find some Small built fast BnT's. For alot of reasons. There are some guys running them with good sucess Im suprised there hasnt been anyone to chime in.
If one could find good fast moving Black and tans a person would have it made. Thats all there is to it.

Many successful lines of Black and Tans have slipped a b&t leopard in the mix. It speeds up the track and quickens the locate. No all, but a lot of them.

It doesn't. I have walkers and a cur. I'm going to try some pups this summer from good breeding. Not because of the color though. I'd hunt a pink poodle if it got the job done!

Just looking for some feedback. I never see much about B&T's on here.
Thanks for the replies!

About 50 year ago when I first met Zip he had a pack of black&tans that caught bobcat very consistently. Recall, sitting on a high point enjoying listening to those B&T/s run and tree a bobcat, before I knew Zip. With some bad luck, & a severe wind storm he lost that strain of hounds & became a walker man. However, he still has at least one B&T IN HIS PACK. There are good hounds in all breeds. Recall once when visiting with Zip, he told me the biggest difference between those black dogs and his present hounds is those black dogs needed a tracer scent to catch cat & his walkers do not. I doubt anyone has enjoyed more years of sucessful cat hunting in Oregon than Zip. It amazes me how narrow minded some folks are about hounds.
Chamers Kelly sold a friend of mine a B&T male named Ranged, that hound treed the first cougar I ever saw treed. Ranger was a hound built for speed & had plenty of it, he caught bobcat very consistent. In those days no ecollars, story goes, every morning before chambers cast ranger he carried a big strap and threatened ranger with that strap. Seemed ranger could catch about anything he ran & needed a daily reminder what to expect if he trashed. Eddy hunted ranger alone and ranger was a complete cat hound, strike to tree.
Hunt what you enjoy. Al

Here are some reasons I wanna add a Black and Tan, Not many dont work on the box not many dont start a old track Not many cant locate. You dont end up with a bunch of High strung dogs running back wards when they hit the tree. You dont end up with many barking off track and you dont find many having feet problems and so on. They seem well rounded. Thats just a observation.
Dan, What I think they did was crossed them leapords to them to give the Leopards a fighting chance to smell a track. Just Kidding

I have a line of dogs here that go back to a female that was reg Black and Tan and walker cross three gens ago and they are up and down the coast as well in Libby Montana, the show eastmans journal shot in Libby are pups that came out of my female. They were the high tan colered dogs. They are cold nosed dogs that balance out to make nice hounds for all big game hunting . I have litters of pups at times . One of the nicest hounds I have owned was out of this line and I have seen many make the complete package. The color seams to stay but theses dogs are basically walkers with a hint of trigg way back .

Couldnt hurt to try one, hell in the last year you have already tried everything but the old ladys house shitter. Go back and read your first post on cat dogs. You dont need speed in the PNW!!!!

Mark, I am planning on getting one or two to try out. There is a difference in speed and flat out slow haha. If I can find some that get threw the woods well I'll scoop them up and give them a honest shot.
