What do you think?

I want to discuss something that I think is important and my opinion is share by too few....We as a user group are under attack across the Nation and closer to home, we are trying to reinstate our hunting with hounds for both Bear and Cougar here in Oregon....

Our battles are about more than these two species in my opinion, we are struggling to maintain our overall hunting rights to simply be able to hunt anything, including the owning of a dog and a gun... Who is up on the tethering law? Why should you care about this law? All to often, we take for granted someone else has our backs covered and don't engage in the process....

How many Oregon hound hunters are even registered to vote and actually do? History lesson...In 1994 under measure 18, We lost our hunting by 1.8% margin of popular vote? 50 % of the hound hunters in my circle said it would never happen and didn't register to vote.

I attended both the OUSDA Convention and the Bobcat Hunters Gathering. What I find amazing is the Gathering has about as many hound hunters turn out as the annual State Hound Convention....

I would like to incorporate a membership drive to our State organization that's fights for our rights, that remembers we are not just all about fun and games...We are concerned about having a Bobcat Hunters Hall of Fame and doing squat across most of the rural locations in State to support our own hunting rights? I think to qualify for the hall of fame? You should be a member of our State Association and registered to vote!

Some of you slackers in rural Oregon benefit from others hard efforts and want a hand out, but don't step up to support the cause? I would like to suggest a membership booth for OUSDA ----Oregon Outdoor Council at the gathering that also considers rocking the vote with looking at a voter registration cards available tied into the booth and handled by those running the booth to make sure they are executed? When we get this figured out, if agreed upon? We need to pass a resolution to incorporate this into OUSDA Memberships/ Business as well!

We missed a good opportunity to talk about voter registration at the Convention over the weekend, and I will be looking into what qualifies to set this up, my thoughts were prompted by a Guest Speaker from the Oregon Senate, District 20, Alan R. Olsen....I went into a State of Oregon Office and they solicit voter registry, so I bet we can do the same, they lobby for liberalism and to eliminate us and everything but larger Government, we need to register to vote and eliminate them!

It is one thing to lose what you love when you are doing everything possible to protect it and totally inexcusable when you do nothing at all.....

Mike

I would have to agree with Mike. All of us that enjoy the outdoors and love to hunt need to register to vote .Please remember before you do that the democrats are out to destroy our way of life .If you don't believe me,check it out.Well, you say you don't want to register as a greedy republican. The good news is you don't have to.Register as an Independent. For the love of the chase and our future .REGISTER and VOTE !!!

Mike, I do agree with you that everyone should register to vote and actually vote when it comes time, I also think if you hunt in Oregon with dogs that you should belong to OUSDA, there is no one or no organization that has done more for Oregon hound hunters then OUSDA! I'll be down at the cat hunters gathering with a stack of membership applications. If you don't support the cause and vote you have no right to complain.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Well Said Mike,

Especially this year more than any other year. We are finally seeing some progress in the political realm I think we need to make sure that we don't screw this up.

.
We all have reasons why we vote the way we chose, politics should be each person choice, never should others pressure or try to influence our votes
I have no intentions of offending anyone with my opinion. Thanks Al

All Whacko's vote. Think about that for a minute. All enviro extremists vote, all climate change believers vote etc.. I'm guessing all Tea Partiers vote. I would be one of them. We're in a fight in NV now and they never quit coming. Every year the antis are at the legislature trying to destroy our "Culture". Sorry it isn't a right to hunt it's our culture or heritage they are trying to destroy. You could say they are cultural bigots.

You can make an excuse for what ever you want...I could give a rats _ _ _ less about the hall of fame. I suspect if we would channel the same amount of energy into fighting a battle like we fight over who has the best cat dogs? Hound vs. Running dogs? We would be unstoppable Folks!..For those hound hunters in a coma across Oregon? We are in a battle for our god given rights, and if 30 bucks is an issue? How do you care for a hound that needs to go to the vet or fix a broken truck?...The list can go on for miles...My District 17 House of Representatives said it best about slacker houndsmen, for the record? I get sick and tired of listening to why we keep getting hammered for lacking funds to fight our battles....Folks, Mr. Buddy just said it like it is....We are close to getting some hunting back....Lets not drop the ball short of a touch down now....

Here is what Rep. Sprenger had to say.......If you were given a choice between supporting your representatives who fight like a dog for you and your rights or you could put a tank of fuel together, buy a six pack of beer and a can of chew and go hunting? The choice is clear, your gone hunting. Don't give me no crap about the chew or beer...I didn't say it, just quoting the District Representative..Don't assume the other guy has it covered.......Your excuse is no longer valid! Exactly what the origin of this post was intended to accomplish......."Lets see about Bringing the membership to Myrtle Point Oregon".....If supporting a State association that is bringing the membership to you so you don't have to drive any farther than Powers Oregon to join is an inconvenience? I don't know what to tell you?

I don't have much after my health related issues and scraping up ten bucks today is like one hundred a few short years ago, I will rob Peter to pay Paul because it is that important! I must be the dumbest SOB on this planet? I have tens of thousands of private acres of reserves to hunt any thing that climbs a tree and don't need to support Oregon for one minute! What exactly is my problem? Here is what I see...... I see all the youth out there and I look back and say, what a heck of a ride I had over the last four, now going on five decades of hunting hounds and these young folks can only listen to our stories from guys like me and this is the best I have to offer?

I need to have my head examined for driving back down next week to California and picking up some pups and the out of pocket cost to get them down to Myrtle Point to donate the funds back to OUSDA for the cause....Why do it? Because it is Our cause!...Let me see, I have an Invite to meet one of Our BGH board members from Norway, in British Columbia for more action packed bear hunting, looking at Grizzly bears and the odd crack from a rifle at a wolf and I'm the dumb a@@ going to Myrtle Point?...Here is my final point......Possibly time to for us to hit the rocking chair maybe if we can't figure this out? Love you all, but please don't get me started!

Mike a lot of us know nothing about when we need to vote or what is going on right now so if you would explain to us how to go about it I'm sure the houndsmen of oregon would step up I know your very involved so we need to know dates as well as what's going on time wise

To register to vote. Just head to the local post office I do believe. Ballots will be received by mail and you can fill put the ballot by how it is best served for you. Personally I will usually vote Republican. However like David Walker said..at the convention. some Democrats will be better for us than others. So pay attention to how each persons legislature record is more so than there party.

Mike you are the Paul Revere for the Oregon hound hunters! Keep up the fighting spirit! If all hound hunters had your relentless determination we would be unstoppable.

Take care Al

Please look up the following, they are all good Democrats..... Wayne Pacelle- Jane Miller-Spencer Lennard- Brooks Fahy from OreCat-- Predator Defense Institute--- Big Wildlife and the Humane Society....... Now how could these Democrats fail you?

I'm not sure I follow your logic? You caved because you hunt hounds and appears to be your passion found only on these boards, near as I can figure? That makes you closer aligned to us than those listed above.....Correct?

You are correct....Look at your geographical location in Oregon, your livelihood for example and then you know why you vote Republican for the most part....Hard to imagine a Democrat that supports our way of life, very rare...Boise Cascade has been under attack by the liberal Democrat party the same as all others across the West.....Sadly, the blue dog Democrat is almost thing of the past if you pay attention.....We had one Democrat Representative also that supported and sponsored our Cougar legislation a few year back by the name of Brian Clem. Look at how 99% of the Democrats vote and you will discover, if you cherish your hounds and way of life, you would not support the Democrat party as a whole.

Charlie...Hope you are doing well!...I will read the link, I suspect it clearly shows trends that can be seen by Stevie Wonder.....

Take Care Guys!
