Dog Box for Ford

Was wondering how big a dog box should be made to comfortably fit 3 adult dogs eah around 90lbs in weight?
I plan to make the box out of wood with a coating of "Dura-Liner" which is a rubberized bed-liner type product, this way my cost will be down and the box will last me long enough till I can afford to have a dog box fab up from steel/aluminum.
Any help with this project would be great, thanks.

I ran 4 dogs in my ford and the box was 4' deep 2' tall and as wide as the bed, it was all open and there was plenty of room.

alright well after measuring my bed and tie areas, Ive decided on a size that is 64.25" wide, 25" deep, and 26" tall, which will sit at the end of my bed since my extra large truck box and transfer tank will be taking up the front of my bed. Would it be better to use 2x4's for the structure, or 2x2's?

2x4 across the bed and 2x2 for the upright's with wood sheeting to tie everything together.

exactly what i was thinking, lol. Whats a good way to put a rigging area on the box? (I assume that means the area where the dog stands on the box and is tied to a railing)

I built a box for my full sized dodge.I bought 2 sheets of 3/8 osb and ripped all my 2x4's into 2x2's.I cut one sheet of the osb in half this made top and bottom the other I cut in half and then each piece in half again this made my sides.I put a divider in the middle to support the box.I used all 2x2's for the frame and it is still as strong as the day I made it a year ago.I can fit 6 dogs comfortably.I got some 1 inch steel tubing off a pallet used to store carpet and built a strike rail.I think the box cost me a total of $40

if you dont have stuff for a strike rail you can just put 2 chains bolted to the top of the dog box that works good to the only thing i like about strike rails is that you can hook up more dogs but both ways have there pros and cons its really what you like. good luck with it and post some pics when you finish it

Yeah I have a box of the same dimensions. Fits 4 dogs very well and should fit any fullsize truck.
