In Montana you have the opportunity to walk your young dog on tracks in the snow. Do a search here on that topic and hopefully it will come up as it has been covered a few times. Keep him on a leash and walk it out. There are other things that some people do like bottled cat scent drags and other training aids that hopefully others will recommend to you but nothing beats the real thing. In snow country you can be the old dog if you don't have one.

I don't know the age of your pup, but before i ever took my pups to the woods I liked my pups knowing that deer scent was an ugly horrible thing that sent bad vibrations through their body. Check out john wicks method for this. Also Elmer B told me a pup that could hang with a rabbit was a pup that could hang with a bobcat. Elmer was not the only one that felt this way. It is important for your pup to handle well, trail well, be well bent against running off game, and he will forget about the rabbits when you get him on bobcat next snow season.

Ok now you got me worried. Your #1 job is to find out what you have in those two dogs. One would have been plenty for your area, but now you have two to choose from. You need to get those dogs out one at a time and test them in every off game situation you can get them in. You also need to see them on good game one at a time and then together. I hope you have a remote shocker, if not, get one. Do not run your pup with them next winter until you know them well. You have to be certain they will not teach your pup the wrong things. Make certain neither one will attack your pup at the tree.

You have to assume those dogs are going to test you to see how much they can get away with. They will know you are new at this. Does not mean the seller liedabout them. I have seen dogs from topmost trainers test a new owner and especially if they are from outside your area with different species or subspecies.

It only takes one dog to tree a cat. With the time you put in to figure out all three of those new dogs you probly could have trained one amazing dog. Focus on one until its finished.
