Folks Mr. Brad has started the "Thinking Thing" going in the Bobcat Section when it appeared we were all asleep.....this is a good thing!

Now along the Line of Brains in a Bobcat Hound and which Hound Pup will make it.....how about what two tools the do Hunters consider the MOST essential to Training your Hound?

I hope this stimulates lots of discussion! Those of you who have hunted with Dad and I probably know where I am headed with this question, but for now lets see what others view as essential.

I quit running the big dogs on everything but deer hunting, and had gone to running beagles on rabbits until I discovered tritronics and garmin. I did it for 30 years without them but if they were taken away I'd probably go back to the beagles and rabbits.

The two greatest tools of the bobcat houndsman? The two things they used fifty years ago and will probably still use fifty years from now would be a dog and a pair of boots. I can't think of anything else I have forgotten to bring along that would prevent me from hunting. Probably have even forgotten boots, but still would list them as essential.

If you had unlimited hunting time with all fuel furnished with best truck money could buy, with brightest light made and a new pair of boots and best tracking and shock collar ever made, you still would have nothing as far as dogs go if you didn't have the ability to read what your dog was doing when pursuing your game of choice in the woods. Knowing when he screws up and best method to correct when he does. These two things are most "Essential" to me when training a hound. Everything else is just icing on the cake but not "Essential". But the icing sure makes it nice!

Two more, tough and fast.
I hope he's not hunting close to Mark! If so these 2 are damn sure needed!

a definite lack of brain cells. if you think about it, anyone who spends hour after hour watching dog asses going down the road all for ten minutes of excitement and calls it a good time has got to be a few cells short in the brain..so its a lack of brain cells that is essential. final answer.

Time and patience. If your a bobcat hunter you've already lost your lead, your wife, your knife, the Garmin burnt out when Tommy Bignutts pulled up next to you an keyed up his mic. If you're still bobcat hunting after all of that, even you yourself are mildly aware that you've got no brains. You sold your gun to pay off your wife and you sold your truck to pay for your kids (or you'd be making license plates and not bobcat hunting). There just isn't muchelse left!

Did I get it?
