Most dogs have a natural animosity for cats so if they'll run a coon they will probably run a hot cat track .However it will usually take some time and experience before they learn to really push a wise ole cat.Cats will run in tight circles and go back on their own tracks ,overlapping their tracks time and time again. If you don't have a good old dog it will take the young dogs some time to figure out the tricks a smart cat will throw at them .Some dogs never figure it out.

The Hounds and Terrier combination was favored by many , Hunters,Traders,Trappers and Scouts in the early days and still used by some! You shouldn't have any problems starting cats if they are already running coons.

You said you were new at this. I think your biggest problem will be reading the snow!! Like frozen tracks, trailing down to the snowline, running a thawing track thinking it's red hot and the list goes on!! On the Hunters side; be very prepared when hunting snow with or without someone else. It's easy to get turned around and further from your starting point when you have your head down walking a cat out for your dogs!!
We don't get alot of snow here, but it is a Heavy Wet snow, that will freeze you to the bone after sundown.

Hound sand terriers, go to the bar above and click on "search". Enter these three key words: snow leash bobcat ...Just like that. Then go to the bottom of the search page and where it asks for how many words, ask for "all available." You will have to weed through a few things but you will also see a lot of things about getting dogs going on bobcat with the aid of snow. Good luck out there. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

I would bet that a hound with good drive will take a "good" track probably gonna take a few times and possibly a good amount of walkin on your part but as mentioned before judging a track isn't always easy I've seen thousands of cat tracks and am lucky to judge it correctly half the time if that. So don't judge your dogs ability track by track seen guys just starting out getting pretty discouraged putting young dogs on cat tracks that they felt were red hot and there young dogs wouldn't take it. I've also put dogs on tracks on a slow day I never thought they would pay any attention to and had them take the track. Seems that cat hunting reminds me all the time just how little I know it's a humbling sport for sure but keep after it hard work pays off you get out of if what you put in to it. Good luck and happy hunting
