Wow, that really sucks chris. I'll keep my eyes and ears open. That is a true piece of trash to steal a dog off the tree like that, or at all for that matter.

Im sorry to hear about your hunting partners lose, If I where you I'd take a good look at the people you hunt around . Jealousy among hondsmen can be a terrible thing. A guide I know in northern Idaho had a man want to buy his best dog when he told him he wasnt for sale the man got furrious and made some comments about hed regreat not sellin him, ne next week the dog was poisoned in the outfitters kennel. unfortunately he never good prove the man did it. I hope you guys find out who did it and can provide enough evedince to prosicute.

Knew a guy once with really good hounds that would buy up other hunters best hounds then destroy them to cut back on the "competion" in the area. Sorry about yours, hope you find out more about what happened.

That's just lousy! I can't stand a dog thief

and a dog murderer well...I won't say what I'd do if I found them but I think everyone has some pretty good ideas of how it should be handled. Any chance of tracking whoever did it? Any sign around the area of if they were on foot or had a vehicle? Our dogs are purposely kept not too friendly because of this kind of thing. We don't have other hunters around to hunt them with anyway so anyone putting hands on them is up to no good. It is safer for them to be a little shy of strangers around here.

The last person hanged in illinois was not very far from here.
The anti horse thief society got him.
My Uncle had a cow shot. He never said a word. 5 or 6 years later, a neighbor asked him if he ever found out who did it. The fellow moved away very soon.
Sorry for your loss.

If it was another houndsmen, they'll flap their gums. Never met a houndsmen who could keep their mouth shut for long

Report it to the police and the local SPCA (they are useful for things like that). Offer a small reward for info leading to an arrest. Someone will shoot their mouth off. I'd go to the local newspaper or tv station with that story. No one likes someone who would shoot a dog, even people who don't hunt--just love dogs. Someone will tattle on them.
