Who in the northwest is breeding a very consistent line of bobcat dogs? If you were in the market for a pup who would you check with first and why?

this is a loaded question to say the least as there are many top shelf lines of cat dogs these days but I will say you should start you're search on the Oregon coast. because a dog that can and does tree bobcats in that country will perform in most any country. jmo

I read on here someplace awhile back that the breeding wasnt all that important you just need to be a good trainer. Im not sure where you are looking on the west coast but they are out there. Both, breeders and trainers.

Huntin1 wrote:From what i have learned is there really is not anyone breeding with success for bobcat dogs. I have done allot of looking and hunting with different houndsmen here on the west coast, and none of them have a recipe for success, they are just throwing some dice and hoping for best. Yes there are some that get on here and tell you they have and do breed bobcat dogs, but when you sift threw the bull.... They are not breeding with much success.
Huntin1, Let's hear who you have hunted with. I know for a fact there are many top notch bobcat hounds being bred on the west coast. There are cat hunters on the west coast catching 50,60,70,80,even some 100 plus cats a year. Do you really believe they are just rolling the dice and hoping for luck???

Huntin1 wrote:The question was breeders of bobcat dogs , I have hunted about with every major bobcat hunter here on oregon Washington coast and there breeding program is just cat dog to cat dog and there numbers of dogs that turn out are not real special. Some crosses better than others but nobody has the magic recipe. Don't believe everything you here on bgh, of these guy catching 75 plus cats a year on a consistent basis, it just isn't happening like some of these Internet posts like to make you think.
I dont know how much effort you have put into this quest of yours, but you need to do put some more into it. As for the you cant believe everything on BGH,you are absolutely right! I dont believe for one minute that you have hunted with "Every major cathunter on the west coast". And for the 75+ cats a year get your money out and put on the table!!!!!!

"I have hunted about with every major bobcat hunter here on oregon Washington coast"
Mark didn't take you out of context!!!! I'm a combination hunter, but I don't think that catching 75% of the cats by a straight cat hunter is out of the question by no means.
Yes many do breed good dog to good dog, and some litters are disappointing.
Many of these cat hunters have semen frozen of super cats dogs that were good producers and will use it when needed. They also keep their close friends informed on what they are doing.
I would call this Breeding Cat Dogs!!!!!!!

Just before the rain hit, I saw a two year old hound move a 15 hour old track out and look real good trailing thur a couple drainages then jump and tree that critter. Then hold that tree for about two hours. There is litter ready about the 10th of november, from this same cross& DUE TO BAD LUCK WILL BE THE LAST BETWEEN THE SIRE & DAME OF THAT NICE TWO TEAR OLD MALE. seeing is believing. For give my typing, not a good day. And I doubt if they all will be as good as the young male I hunted with. Al
