i've got a beagle walker mix. shes a good hunter on rabbits and coyotes but ive been having some real trouble with coon. i caught one in a live trap and she gave a couple barks and then lost interest. she was about a year at the time. how can i get her interested?

I would try another cage coon and see how that goes. I would definately take that hound out hunting with an experienced hound that can track and tree on its own.

Well, that makes it a little tougher. What I would do is keep setting live traps, take your coon and release it along a tree line, then go and get your hound and take him to the same spot you released the coon. If this hound has the genetics to be a hunter, he will figure it out soon. Set up things like this in different spots so the hound can't get used to one spot, but try not to ever let him see the coon when you are going to plant him somewhere. I hope some of this helps. Good luck and happy hunting.

I am glad to hear that it worked for you. I would try it again a few times and extend the amount of time between dumping the coon and the hound. Next time make it twice the time you waited last time, then double it again. If she sticks with it hunt her as much as possible. Keep up the good work and taker easy.
Happy hunting
Mike
