I enjoyed reading every bit of the contest details and even though I didn't know a single entrant or dog I congratulate JC and Ringer for coming out on top this time. I also commend every man and dog that had the guts to enter. There was no doubt from the very first there was going to be stiff competition and good dogs competing. Sure there were some things that happened, weather and hunting conditions etc, that may have been better one time than another but that is hunting. I think from what I read all the competitors acted like top notch sportsmen and deserve a lot of credit. Best of luck to ALL the men and dogs.

What percentage of started tracks do you finish with a tree/catch/in hole?

Just curious in comparison to what we accomplish (or not) in our area.

Yes , he was born raised and trained here. Jumped cat races vary in time depending on the Terrain conditions and the cat. I run 10 to 12 dogs. With the pack I would say 90% catch rate.

Do you tree most of the cats? In our SE OK country we catch more then we tree it seems.

I run about the same number in my pack--10 to 12 with normally 1-3 of these being young hounds.

Hunt country is rough enough that no matter who's cat hounds are used, more cats escape then are caught/or treed!

Another question--what breeding do you mainly hang with, Running, Treeing, etc?

We use, or attempt to have, some Running in most of the hounds, with number full blood Running Walker and Trigg. I have one Reg Treeing Walker in pack and is one of my finished huonds that is five years old.

tree probably 80% of the cats that are caught. I try to keep 1/4 to 1/2 running dog in my dogs. with the bigger timber a dog needs to be more tree minded . imo

About the same in our country.

Tough to get cross in hounds correct, and maybe tougher to get pack where I like what they do?

And then you have hunt like this week where the statement "if cats are not moving they are tough to get started" is so true. Roaded & rigged from Sunday nite off and on through Weds. night and found only tracks that my hounds just could not get moving. Lots of weather with lighting and rain did not help!

Here's one for you---when it starts lighting/thundering even a long ways away--my hounds try tearing the dog box door down getting inside? And seems the Running breeds are worse?

Anyone else noticed this?
