Can a dog have an allergic reaction to bee stings?

I had a 1.5 year old dog on a chase saturday that got behind and seemed to have quit. I took tracker and walked in to him and found him coming down the hill towards the river. I leashed him up and started walking out and the farther we went the more i had to pull on the lead.

I thought he might be having a heat stroke so i pulled him out in the river into about 8 inches of water and splashed water on his belly and poured water down his back. As he is standing in the water and drinking he just gradually starts sinking. I at first just thought the water was feeling good and he was doing it himself. Until his head started going under.

I picked him up and layed him on a large flat rock, at this point he seemed almost paralyzed. I started looking him over and found a yellow jacket clamped under his tail with the stinger imbedded. I carried him to the truck and he died an hour later.

Has anyone heard or seen anything like this before?

I could not find any snake bites and there not real common where we were at.

Never heard of it but my buddies dog when stung on the face swells up pretty good. It could be the same as humans different degrees of reactions. Sorry to here about your dog.
