Hey Everyone,

First of all, I hope you and your family all had a great Thanksgiving and have a wonderful Christmas.

I need to buy a flashlight for spotting game in the trees. The one I have just will not keep a charge long enough. I want one that is strong enough that would be seen in space. Anyway, was wondering what you all had and would recommend? Thanks and talk to you soon. Jon

Hi Jon

Hope all is going well for you!

I had to quit carrying the larger battery pack, gel cell lights after 40 + years (too much weight)and went to the new LED lights...I figured a guy could go broke buying replacement batteries, here is what I did, bought me a three position light that has a high setting, which will light up the world and the second stage is what a cat will look at in a tree along with a strobe or blinking setting. 300 lumens plus is more than adequate in my opinion.

Here is the biggest thing I now look for....Everything I buy must run on AA batteries. Costco has the Eneloop rechargables for around 20 bucks. They last twice as long as energizers. I keep a power inverter in my truck so I can use the 110 wall outlet set up as well for extended outtings.

Take care!

Mike

Hey Mike,
Good to hear from you. Hope all things are good for you. A couple days ago, I tried to get a hold of Kevin because we were hunting up in your neck of the woods. I thought it would have been fun to finally hunt with him. One of these days, we will get our schedules together. I am sorry but I didn't think of calling you. I will next time for sure. The reason for my post was we had a critter in the top of a tree and the lights kept going off. I think it was the temperature, -3. I was told today that batteries could make the difference too. I am not surest I ned to get a light that will stay on and light up to the moon.
Anyway, talk to you later and maybe we will see you at the new hound club going over here. Talk to you soon and have a great holiday.

I carry the Nitecore Tm-06 it puts out 3800 Lumens. This is an incredible flashlight although expensive it can save your life. I would not carry it as my primary walking light although it has lower power settings, but when needed you can nearly knock a coon out the the tree with the beam alone. It also comes with a wall and car charger. It/s always in my pack.

I've got two of the tri tronics night razors, I know their no longer in production but their a good little light that's light weight, I keep one on my cap and the other in my jacket pocket, I can usually run from dark to daylight and never swap them out on several hunts, depends on how much I use them and at what intensity, the con to it is the price, my buddy ordered some Cree lights off of eBay that are just as bright and over half the price cheaper, my only advantage to me is how lightweight it is, the battery packs on the Cree and other brands of cordless lights on the back starts making my neck get aggravated and sore after a short period of time if I have to wear them long, there are still some of these lights out there, you just have to look, I want to say I found my second one at grain valley dog supply. Another drawback is if you lose or break the charger your dang near doomed, my reason for a second one was I lost the charger to my first one and hunted about a year and found a place that still had them, so I had to buy a whole new light just to have a charger.
