does anybody on here hunt in wv or close by would like to get some ideas of how they do it I have always wanted to try hunting bobcats but never did now I'm ready to try it also is there anybody on this side of the country who breeds and sells pups from a line of proven cat dogs. I have a year and a half old red tick that is from a great line of bear and coonhounds but don't know how she will do on cats so if she doesn't make the cut want to start looking for another pup. also is there any place that will sell a raw bobcat hide. any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks

You must like punishment, but i do it in PA and mostly do it in snow. Cut a track and walk it out or thick swamps once they get froze over sometimes you can get lucky free casting. Im no pro though got 8 years in and still learning. Have someone go with you to move the truck around and have 2 way radios. Thats probably the best advice i can give cause the first time you go out after a fresh snow and cut a monster track and then proceed to go 9 miles and never even end up jumped then have to turn and do the walk of shame back to the truck empty handed you will wish you had some help. I just started running mike kemp hounds from three bear kennels and i won't ever run anything else.

Yeah the dog i started with is from Maine. From an guide that makes his living off them. I have even went on a bear hunt to them in action too. The dog i got off Kemp is way faster and easily twice as durable. In 2 months of running cats she was leaving him in the dust it got where i would leave him home and take her to cold trail and jump on her own. So yes i wont ever run anything else but his stock.

So those are the only dogs that run to catch? Maybe the other one was like molasses on a cold day? Sounds like ole Mike is going to score!! Just remember to keep an open mind!?? There are several other breeds/dogs that get it done in the woods! He a also has culls that aren't cat dogs as with every breeder.Maybe not even worth feeding for a hunter? I haven't owned one but I'm sure others on here could testify they're not all superstars. What is this dogs catch percentage?

I agree buddy. All im saying is that dog runs cats better than any other breed ive seen in PA. Different conditions in different states. I talked to a guy that does the same thing i do, and he had Blueticks from Montana. I couldnt believe the footage he had and Pics to go with it. When we brought them to PA it was a different story though and he was shocked too. In a week of nearly perfect conditions only jumped once and they got spun on there heads and never recouped from it. Im sure i could take her too the desert and I would probably look foolish. The last 4 times i took her by herself she caught 3 out of 4 and held them there. The fourth ended up in a hole, but i did get to see it twice. I've seen dogs that can catch and tree but they don't like to climb here. I've seen more bay ups on the ground. I just feel you need brains to catch here.

In my country a bay up is a dead cat plain and simple!!! They will not want to stay on the ground! Just thinking maybe you should look for a dog that makes them climb????

LOL 10-4. One thats holds works for me. I know theres others I've seen some. Just few and far between, but thats probably pretty standard in cat hunting. I dont know of any that can kill a 30lber one on one but im sure they are out there.
