Hello from Dublin, Ireland

Hello lads and ladies,i am Glen,i live in Dublin Ireland,i have only joined today and looking forward to reading your posts,i keep lurchers and longdogs and a couple of working terrier,the lurchers are mainly used for deer,fox,hare and rabbit,as we dont have and bear on lion here,i always loved and read about tree climbing coonhounds,red ticks,and bloodhounds and always dreamed of hunting with these some day,[hopefully],so i wont bore you anymore and as i said i look forward to reading and hopefully can help in some way,thanks again...

Welcome aboard Glen, where in Dublin are you at ? my uncle's family came from there i think. i know theyve went over to vacation there before. he was telling me about the dogs there. very interesting. where some of my dogs roots go back to i belive.

Glen.. Welcome to the site,

Too Bad it wasn't a couple years ago, I spent 3 weeks over there working in lexlip, I stayed in Dublin right off Grafton street at some High Class Hotel.. And It Sure would have been nice to know someone over there that Hunted.. After Three weeks of not getting out and hutning I was starting to get withdrawls,

Beautiful Country over there, it was the first and Only time I've left the US borders..I guess I"m Not much of a world traveler..

And I had Lot's of Funny stories about a Redneck over there in Ireland, I somehow managed to avoid several Head on auto collisions with you guys driving on the wrong damn side of the road..

Anyways Enjoy the Site and Hopefully you'll make it over here one day and get a Chance to chase something that can Climb..

why thank you Buddyw for the welcome,pity i didnt know you when you came over you might of not returned back home,as we could show you how we hunt Irish style,very little over here to tree,but our style is coursing[deer ,hare] lamping [fox rabbit and deer],and maybe a bit of daytime digging [fox] with the terriers,so make sure you keep in touch for your next trip over to the Emerald Isle.

Welcome to the site Glen. As you dream of hunting with the treeing hounds, Ive always dreamed of hunting in Ireland too. Especially red deer. One day maybe Ill have the cash to make it over to that beautiful country. Id love to see some hunting pics of your dogs too. Good luck and happy hunting!

thanks lads for the warm welcome,god at the way i am reading the the topics its going to take me all year,you all are very lucky to have such a great amount of predators to hunt,and even better to hunt with your hounds,it must be music to your ears to hear your hounds in full cry when they are closing in on their prey,it must be a great feeling.

What's the craic earthmover? North side Dublin you say? How are you handling all the rain and flooding? Bet it has been hard to get your dogs out running as of late with the weather being crap the last month. You must run your dogs around Meath then? Not alot of foot hunters around your area. Most I know are in Cork and the like. So you have any photos you can share with us? You ever run any mink?

I'm sure I would have really enjoyed it and you probably would have been my New best friend while I was over there, But this Boy has to have his time up in the mountains.. And I didn't see too many of them..

I was driving around trying to find a Place to see some wildlife and such while I was there, I went to some Park North east of dublin hoping to find and photograph some Stag deer, Seams like most irish just thought I was crazy and wanted to point me to all the Castles and old buildings you know the standard Tourist stops..

Too bad they didn't point me in your direction..

well lads,good thing about the rain it has the ground very soft,so ideal to gallop the dogs and keep them fit,well for every 4 days we get here of rain we do get a bit of dry weather,and as i work nights i get a chance to get out into the field three to four times a week,Big horn posse,are you a fellow hunter aswell and a paddy,i do hunt around meath and louth and kildare just to name a few,i also know a few around cork,there is a good few foothunters around my area mostly terrier men and keep the odd lurcher for drawing,buddy,you wont see much wildlife around dublin apart from the urban fox and the herd of deer that roam around the pheonix park,and the only time you get to shoot them is with a camera,i will post a few pictures of my dogs soon,dont have many of them taking game as i never seem to have a camera with me when i am out hunting,at the moment i have three lurchers,first is a lurcher bitch,she,s a deerhoundxgreyhound put back to a greyhoundx wheaton terrier,and two lurcher pups going on 9 months now,they are 3/4 greyhound 1/4 wheaton terrier,so looking forward to giving them a bit of work after the Christmas but not to much so not to sour them,

I prefer the Harrier myself. So how are you fairing with the Society Against Animal Cruelty around Dublin? Cannot go anywhere around Cork without seeing the likes of them and thier anti bloodsport and anti fur campaigns. Must be hard to keep so many dogs in Swords. I don't know too much about the Lurcher dogs only seen a few. Are you crossing them with retired greyhounds? The Greyhounds are a dime a dozen as of late so it seems. The Jack Russel is quite popular in Co. Cork as well. Most the foot hunters around have Harriers and Terriers. See a few dog boxes traveling the roads now and then. Are you getting hit with all the floodling? Seen on RTE is it floodling everywhere now. Take care mo chara.

yes a bit of water around the land and the rabbits had no place to hide so the frezzer is fairly full at the moment,a lot of foot beagles around with the hunts this year,as they are just about to get underway for a bit of cubbing,yes i like the harrier,but you are either a fit man to keep up with them as when they get a blow they are impossible to be called off,and as for charlie,well he can run just as much,yes the greyhounds are easy to come by but i only take them if they can take fox if not they dont see the inside of my kennels,so my friend i will bid you goodnight and hopefully talk tomorrow,take care and be good.
