unfortunately Scott they are out numbered by the liberals in Cali. The whole state is ran by the bay area and L.A. So all the normal people in the beutiful parts are governed by the ideots in the big citys. Its too bad cause cali. really has some great natral resourses.

I know what you mean Paul......we are seeing the seatle/portland influence over here also. A state that has historically been republican is slowing changing over to democrat.
We have 2 democratic senators now and a democratic govenor. Our unemployent rate is rising in my valley but they want to blame one man in the white house rather then the congress or better yet the state officials in office here The last poll even had the flahead valley pro obama I hope people wake up before november. We will be looking at higher taxes and less jobs for sure if he gets in.

Yes Cali. is a wonderful state without LA and SF. I was born and raised in southern Ca. The state has everything a man could want. It's just not worth dealing with all the idiot's and their laws if you ask me. I do love your state but I'm proud now to be a Texan.

I use to live in Killeen,Tx while station @ Ft Hood, But did not have the time to hunt because the military kept us busy weekdays and weekends.
I'd like to get back there and visit couple BMC breeders for some pups but may have to pick some up closer.

JP- Whats the reason for the GPS andtree switchs? In Pa. they were going to ban tracking collars for hounds lol. Can you imagine running coyote out there and not having you tracking collar on your hounds!!! What a mess. I think the PA fox/coyote hunters got it turned around just in time.

Stuntman. they claim that it gives the hunter an unfair advantage and is a violation of fair chase. thats what they claim.

the gps allows you to track your dog thats tracking your critter step for step giving you an unfair advantage b/c you can strategically maneuver and "corral" the querry.

the treeswitch makes it to easy for you to know when the querry has been caught.

i honestly dont understand or even know for sure what their reasoning is on the treeswitch deal.


its all bullshit in reality. treeswitches are about worthless out here in these steep mountains. they still work from time to time and you can learn to tell the difference b/w a dog thats climbing a steep mountain and a dog thats treed but it takes a little education to figure out what exactly is going on.

I moved ther from N.C. in 65. you could not ask for a better place to live, get a job any where. Then Asian started moving in [ragheads] and seem like every Homo and Liberal moved in also. the two cities stopped the mtn lion hunting,now they are over run by them.

Firstoff the Garmin unit isnt a GPS locator. Its FM like all the other tracking collar. The hand held unit is the only thing thats GPS the collar is FM, and totally legal. The Problem with Fish and Game is they dont have a clue sometimes what they are talking about. Its always good to have the wriiten rules with you, and then proof that you know what your talking about. In the Garmin instructions it states clearly tht the collar is FM not GPS thats why it only has a range of 5-7 miles, if both were GPS the range would be unlimited.

Below is the section from the fish and game regs. I understand what your saying about the FM transmission but it says "employing the use of GPS equipment" and the handheld is part of the equipment. I'd like an intrpretation from fish and game but I wouldn't want to get caught using one.

Let me say. The Astro tracking collar and the tracking part of the hand held unit, IS NOT utilizing a satelite transmissions to track the dog. All tranmissions are from FM radio thats built into the GSP unit. The GPS handheld has an FM antena on it and the dogs collar has a FM antena on it. The GPS in no way tracks the dog. What the GSP handheld does is overlays with topo map where the dog is it will point with an arrow the direction the dog is, and gives a range reading on how far out the dog is. But the reading is limited to 5-7 miles becasue it is FM radio trasmitted. A true GPS would be unlimited. It clearly states in the directions that the Astro collar is trasmitted by FM and you get the best reception with less obstructions, and you can lose range depending on obstructions. I carry the direction with me when I hunt just in case I run into a question on the collars. Again the directions state very clearly that the collar and handheld read each other by the use of an FM trasmition. I dont see how DFG could have an issue with them.
