Slipped disc in hound

Got a year old dog here that slipped a disc where the thorax and lumbar meet last week . Went to the vet and he has good reflex response and feeling in his hips and legs. Have him taking a steroid to help with inflammation etc. Suffers from all the symptoms of ivdd. He can walk around fine but obviously trying to run isn't happening. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what did you do? How long was the heal time? Did the dog ever recover enough to be used again for hard work?

Thanks

Gilly

This happened to a friend of mines dog. He took it to a human chiropractor and got him fixed up and hunting again.

A friend had that happen to his top dog,he thinks a cow kicked it.
Took him to vet 2 or 3 times .The last vist the vet was feeling up and down the dogs back and they heard kind of a pop and apparently the disc realigned because the dog was fine after that.

I've seen it a couple times. They can recover, but never 100%. Enough to hunt though. No matter what kind of protocol you use for treatment, I would not let the dog jump up or down off anything (doghouse, tailgate, etc.) For several months.
