Has anyone ever carried one of these and what did you like or not like about them?

I borroved one in 308win for a short periode of time. Didnt get to friendly with it...
It was something in between, not the lines of a trad. lever action 'cause of the box magasine and not the precision of a bolt action... - Practical though.

I have owned several of them. The rotary locking bolt is strong enough to handle any load you can crank thru them. The biggest fault I can see is there triggers are complicated and usually creepy and a bit heavy. Also they do not carry like a tru lever carbine should their lines are square and not flowing like the model 94, 336 or Savage 99. All in all if you are a lever nut and want to shoot pointed bullets and higher velocity loads they are ok and generally adequatly accurate. But in the bigger claibers 06-and the standard magnums the bolt throw is very long and clumsy and they are awkward with long barrels. I would opt for one in a 270 WSSM and probably have a nice gun but the triggers still bugs me.
Levers are in fact no faster than a good slick bolt action if a person knows how to use it. Timed shooting by various people with the same guns has proven that there is very little difference between accuratly placed rapid shots, and this even included the semi autos in harder recoiling calibers. A 223 or something like that with very little recoil would allow the semi auto shooter to get back on target and fire again a bit quicker.

I have an older one in 308 cal, it is my bear gun of choice, the stock is shortened slightly, its shorter than a 94. I particlarly like the clip. Much safer to load and unload. Here in WI, guns must be unloaded and cased, in a motor vehicle. I've seen several accidental disharges from people running the rounds through the traditional levers to unload.

I have a brother-in-law that hunted with one in a 7mm Rem. mag for a number of years, but he was disappointed with its accuracy and ended up selling it. It could've been he just got the one bad one in the lot, or it could be that he never worked up a bullet/powder combination that worked well with the gun, either way the rifle didn't live up to his expectations.
