DIY advice

So i am looking to build an over the rail type box for my f150. My question is it will be out of wood as that's what I have access too. SO with making it as light as possible i was thinking of making one with no bottom or sides to just the back wall the top with the rail and the front with doors. How well to these style boxes do in the rain. I'm in the PNW and we get a lot of rain. will it still keep the bedding somewhat dry? Any tips on building one like this
