First let me say I am new to this so this question may be tired already. First, how do I know if my dogs are running off game (deer) and second do the trash collars work? Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome Tim, First do a search on trash breaking and you'll come up with a ton of info already written. I'm not sure why trash breaking collars are made to work up to 2 miles away because if you're not 100% sure that your dog is running trash, then the worst thing you could do is hit the shock collar on him. My best advise would be to never hit that button unless you actually see the trash being run. I've written extensively on how to trash break your dog. Mike Leonard also has written a lot on this subject with proven methods.

Its more important that you show them the game you want and often. If the dogs are breed right it will click in there head what you want them to do with proper postive reinforcements.
I agree with only shock the dog when you see him running trash but it is more important to catch them doing something right and reward them for it. It makes a much better harder hunting hound if the pleasure exceeds the correction at least ten to one.

the best deal is right after you shock your dog from running trash is to give it good game that way it can go ok that didnt feel so good and this feels good and the owner is happy but thats easyer said then done lol
