Jadg and Patterdale Terriers

Hi all,
I have a question for anyone with experience or knowledge in these two breeds. I have asked a few people about them but am looking for a broader information base to get more information.
Assume in your responces that I am very knowledgable about dog behavior, etc.
I know much of temperament/structure/work ethic all depends on the specific breeding and the lines you are breeding from.
But , as a general rule, what are the characteristics of these two breeds?
What we need (and I do know we are talking about terriers here) is a dog that wants and can stand to live in a pack of humans and dogs (and yes, we teach all our dogs, even terriers, to co-habitate with chickens, cats, etc and are quite successful) . A Terrier that will work with thier pack, including children. I look for high biddability, and a very strong work eithic. High energy doesn't bother me, but if you get a "bullshit" dog that has no desire to work with me or anyone else, that dog is useless. I like energy, just need a work partner. We also need a non-dog aggressive terrier. Some seem too dog aggressive, this just doesn't work out.
So, that said, we have a "needs to be culled" Jadg, very displeased with him. Put so much effort and money into him my husband (can't blame him) wants to keep him for trapping season this season (pulling coon out of brush, but the darn dog won't go to ground at all, our Catahoula at 9 months was better and the Jadg is 2.5 years old now). Dog can't be with other dogs and even though he is obedient (worked hard on this), he often refuses commands, which , I know is an oxymoron, but he does try very hard to do his own thing (typical terrier yes, but they can be wonderfully obedient also).
Another thing, this Terrier (neutered) is the filthiest dog I have ever had or even known. He pees in his sleeping quarters, food dish and water. He didn't as a pup, slept in the house in our room, in his crate just fine. As soon as a new dog joined the house, he started this behavior. Broke him of marking in the house as soon as it started, but the night time thing we never concured, and if he was given any commands or direction and we followed through if he didn't do it, he would sneak off and pee on our personal items (whoever was the one trying to work with him at the time). Needless to say, I am done with this dog and he is a kennel dog now.
Anyway, tired of getting crumby dogs, takes alot of time money and effort to raise them right (after initial costs), and it sure is a dissappointment to have to start over again.
We have a Catahoula, an English Shepherd and the Jadg. Will be probably getting a Mtn Cur and we really would like to get another Terrier to join our trapping group.
Yoiur opinions of these breeds is wanted please!!
Thanks, Squirrelgirl
