Is anyone having a problem with Diamond dog food? I have been feeding mine the Premium Adult for over a year but over the past few months have been having problems off and on with it making them crap like a calf with scours. The Lamb and Rice will get them back to normal, just tried using the High Performance (black bag/purple stripes) and it makes them crap like crazy too. Also they absolutley refuse to eat the Sporting Dog (burgundy/green bag) bag. Anyone else having similar problems? My Diamond comes from the California plant.
Also anyone been feeding Loyall food? Thats what I'm now switching to.

I used to feed all my dogs the Sporting dog formula for years and never had a problem with it feeding wise. I did stop buying it when they raised the price 10 bucks more a bag in the last 6 months.

Diamond High Energy goes right through my dogs too, so I switched to Black Gold

Something you guys might all want to try is to feed two or more different types rather then just one type all the time. I started this 10 years ago and it is much better for the dogs. I just dump in two types of feed into a 55 gal drum then feed out of that. There isn't one type of feed alone that has everything in it for your dogs. I would also not just feed dry to your dogs. Dogs are meat eaters and they need that protein from meat. You can always find deer or elk roadkill if you have to and grind it up to suppliment your dogs feed. I've been using buffalo for years now and haven't had a sick dog in over 10 years.

I am boycotting Diamond and suggest that you all do the same. Last year our dogs nearly starved to death on it. They couldn't run more than an hour without falling behind the dogs that were on a different brand of food. This year those same dogs are treeing bear and have held up muck better throughout the season.
I contacted them and ask them why their prices continued to rise even though corn and fuel prices had fallen and they told me that it was a competetive market and they would not lower their prices as long as they were selling plenty of food.

Now that they've upped the price on Exceed, it's much easier for me to stop by and grab a bag of the Diamond Naturals, than make a special trip to Sam's Club.
I've been feeding the Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice, and like it so far. Just like the Exceed, if I feed them even the slightest bit more than I need to, they get fatter than ticks. I'm going to try and see what the Extreame Athlete food is like. It's only $3 more, and is much higher fat/protien, so maybe could get by with feeding the dogs even less. But it's been sold out everywhere I go.

THIS PROBLEM IS NOT DOG FOOD RELATED, IT IS CAUSED BY SWITCHING FEEDS. IF YOU FEED A CHEAP DOG FOOD OR A TOP OF THE LINE. I NOTICE THAT SWITCHING CAUSES DOGS TO CRAP LIKE A CALF WITH SCOURS UNTIL THEY ADJUST. DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT TRY IT YOURSELF. FEED THE SAME BRAND FOR A MONTH THAN SWITCH STAYING WITH THE SAME BRAND,AS NO TO FEEDS ARE THE SAME WITH CONTENTS AND PROTEIN. AND LOOK OUT. I TRAVEL ALOT HUNTING THE COUNTRY AND IF I MIX FEEDS, WELL I'M HOME BOUND UNTIL THE DOGS ADJUST. THIS IS A PARALLEL IN PURINA, OR WHAT EVER YOU FEED. TRY IT ! STOP AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU EAT AND WHAT DON'T SETTLE WITH YOU . SOME ADJUSTING TIME IS NECESSARY. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I am with Mike, I've been told and stuck to not changing up feed. My vet told me years ago not to switch back and forth as it is hard on them. I can't think that mixing would be any different, but I guess if you're feeding the same mix and not ever changing it could be a good idea to try. I myself feed black gold in the black bag and have had nothing but great results. Shiny coats, stay in good flesh with smaller amounts, plenty of energy, and smaller waste.

I advocate feeding the best quality dog food that you can afford.
We all know that the pet food indusrty is very poorly regulated, and some manufactures include absolute garbage as contents that are "hidden" under the umbrella heading of "protein, fat, and fiber".
There was a show on 20/20 or 5th Estate on TV that exposed the dog food industry for what it is............
Of the vetrinarians that were interviewed for the report, a point of unanimous agreement was, to feed your dog quality human-grade food, like table leftovers, and to not rely on one brand of dog food alone, but to switch them up and alternate brands. Blend different brands of food together so the switch is made gradually, over a period of 7 days.
I do this with good results.

ColdTrack, Yea, I didn't mean to switch feed back and forth. I mix the same two types of dog food and then feed them the same 50/50 mix all the time. I know a lot of guys feed the cheapest feed they can find like Walmart special but I agree, spend the extra money and feed them the best out there.
Also, Why are you guys buying from retailers? Get a hold of the local supplier and buy from them, you will save about 30-50 % off retail prices. I buy 20 bags at a time and that last me almost a year.

I use Diamond High Energy and never had any issues. I did last month have to buy a cheaper brand and noticed a change in dogs. Back to the High Energy. But I have mixed also and probably will again here soon and that usually does not effect them much. I'm sure dogs probably will run into same issues as humans....
I have 3 variety of dogs from a chiwaiwa to hounds to an Alaskan Malamute and I've found for me all three handle the high energy better then anything else I've tried.

I hadn't started switching foods around until the problem started (and I had to try and find a way to fix it) .
I have talked to the Diamond 'veteranarian' and she said she believes it happens because sometimes their first choice raw product provider is sold out and they have to go with the second provider. It does seem that the production codes will match between times when I buy bags that make them crap and times when I buy bags that they are fine on. If I knew when the bags would be good I'd stick with Diamond but as it is...well its a crapshoot (ha couldn't resist). Previously I had fed black bag Diamond for over a year but the price went up considerably and the store quit carrying it. I have been happy with Loyall so far but it costs a little more.
Hey Cassandra I think I have seen the Extreme Athlete at the Oroville Tractor Supply every time I have gone in there...not sure if you have tried that place. I have been thinking about trying that one as well as I'm starting to think that maybe the corn is the problem...I imagine that is what Diamond has the hardest problem buying in large quantities, since there is supposedly this big corn shortage.
