i have this old walker male thats about ten years old or so, and to me it seems that when i run him, once every 4 days, that he has alot more energy in him. so for the people out there that are running some old dogs, how do you go about hunting your old dogs, such as how many days a week or how many days a month?
thanks, mike.

takes longer to get older dog in shape- avoid extreme temp - let em rest longer , i think you got right idea --as weather cools you may be able to hunt that dog a lot more -- just work up to it gradually-

thanks Pete, yea these old dogs do need some special treatment just can toss them around like young dogs.
Do you keep your old dog on a different diet than you younger dogs?

I hunted my older dogs the same as I did my younger ones. The old dogs seemed to get tired faster and got to go in the box to rest while the rest stayed out hunting. But for the most part as long as they are riding the box looking for a strike they always did great. Seemed like my older dogs would reserve their energy till the race was on and then sure would turn it on to catch but after a race they sure would be beat compared to the younger dogs. But they where always their and hunted all the times I went out. 3-4 times a week for 6-7 months at a time. towards the end of the season you could tell they had been hunted and deserved evry month they got off, but soon as they see the truck backing up to them they are ready to go.
